depo shot...bad idea?

Hi, im a little over 4 months out and my dr. (Gyn) wants to put me on the depo shot. I have heard that this can cause serious wieght gain. But other bc options are less effective due to a med that im on. Im still early out after rxy and would hate to slow things down or worse pack on lbs. Any thoughts are helpful!! Thx
Did the shots back in the 90s and gained 30lb.  I now have an Implanon and LOVE it!  I never have to think about it.  I am on my second one.

i have the implanon, i think its nice, only had in it a few weeks though and ALREADY its bent! :( but i think it will be better once i loose weight and my arm doesnt move every witch way (the fat part that they put it in) lol ..
I was on depo for 9yrs and I think it is an excellent effective form of birth control. I don't really know if it helped me to pack on any pounds because I wasn't really weighing myself often then. I've read quite a few ppl say that other methods have failed after wls because weight loss for various reasons.

Think of it like this: Any chance of weight gain you could get as a side effect of depo is nothing compared to weight gain you would have fom getting pregnant during your "honeymoon" phase

gained like 60 pounds on the depo shot. once i went off it it took me over 2 years to get pregnant. couldn't pay me enough to take it again

i have the paraguard iud and love it.

I have been on the depo shot for 10 years. I gained weight, but it was definitely not from the shot. It was from what I put in my mouth..lol. I love the shot. I never get my period. I think it's the greatest thing ever!
I was 125 when I got on depo at 17 years old. 1 year later I was almost 200 lbs and exhibiting my first signs of pcos. The giant hormone dose shocked the crap out of my system.

I wouldn't get back on depo if someone paid me.

I heard that the shot and the implanon thing cause lots of weight. Although the doctors disagree, I think anything with hormones can cause weight gain. A few months ago I had the paraguard iud (no hormones) put in. That didn't work out too well because my peroids were sooo heavy. Today I had it removed it was so bad.

after surgery i needed some form of birth control and decided to go with depo..been on the shot for 3months and i am doing fine ...my weight lose has been steady..but not sure if its to early in to notice anything difrnt from the shot...so far its been good  for me and stays this way...

I used Depo for a few years post-op and lost weight.   More recently I've switched to Nuva-Ring.   No change in weight.

I am on Depo now. Have been since I was 1 month post op (I am 4 months out now). I just got my second shot this week. I am not sure if it is slowing my weight loss. I am down about 54 since surgery. I am definitely not gaining that is for sure. I lose slower now than I did in the beginning but I think that can be normal. I don't plan on being on it for very long because once I get to goal and maintain a little I plan to get pregnant.

I am also about 4 months out. I had the shot 5 days after my surgery & have lost about 80 pounds. I don't think that the shot has slowed down my weight loss at all, but because I have pcos & hadn't had a period in well over a year, I have been on my period for the entire 4 months (sometimes it's pretty light). My doc says all the bleeding is because I'm shedding built up lining & it will eventually stop.
Birth control sucks!  LOL  I hate it with a passion.

That said, I've had the Implanon for 3 years now and am about to probably have my second put in.  It hasn't caused me any problems, no weight gain, and no accidental pregnancies like when I was on the pill.

I'm too afraid to try depo, although in theory it sounds REALLY convenient.

I am on Depo only for migraine prophylaxis (my hubby has been "fixed") and for severe anemia. I am anemic to the point of needing blood transfusions just about yearly, and post op my periods got so heavy that they were uncontrollable. I've been scoped inside, outside and upside down and they finally decided that the least they could do was to try and stop the periods, and thus the bleeding. So it's worked out really well for me.

I got my first post-op injection about 15 months ago and have had not had any regain associated with the Depo.

I was about 8 months out when I went on depo. I did not gain weight, but the hormones added to the hormones from the weight loss made me feel like I was going insane. I was on them about a year. I feel much better now that I'm off them.
