NutraMetrix Vitamins

Anyone heard of Nutrametrix Vitamins? I learned about them from my nutritionist, something about them pre-digesting so we would get full benefit of the vitamins...

I'm starting off with them but I also have some chewables on hand in case I cannot get them in...

Yeah they sample at our group all the time. I don't get their dosing relative to RNYers. They say you only have to take like a dose or two doses a day (or something) and the amount of calcium in the doses in particular raised a red flag for me. I'm no vitamin expert, but I know calcium is recommended at certain dosages at a time to ensure absorption and it just seemed like there was too much.

Their answer was that the vitamins are pre-digested (?) so they can enter into your system without your digestive system having to do anything.

At any rate, I have NO idea if they are good or bad. Ultimately they are EXPENSIVE so I passed.

Nancy seems to like them and she's got a lot of years of working with bariatric patients under her belt so I'd have a chat with her about it.

As Nik said - way too expensive and most likely the wrong combination for us. Not enough of vitamins.

When since we have to take lots of vitamins and minerals - the price become an issue... unless you are independently wealthy then you will have the great vitamins formulated for you in the proportion your body needs based on customized blood work.. I wish I was that wealthy - no more guessing game - you pay someone to formulate vitamins and minerals based on your personal absorption and needs.

There's a rep who sets up outside of all our support group meetings, after the 1st time I saw them I looked it up online and found out it was one of those pyramid sales kind of things, probably why they are so expensive. I couldn't find anything online which seemed to suggest they were worth the price.

They look like OK vitamins to me but just OK.  What I don't like about them is that they have high amounts of some vitamins but really low amounts of some things.  I prefer to go with a vitamin with about 100% of the RDA of stuff in it, and then you just need to take two a day.  This vitamin has 200% of many things in it, which would mean you'd only need it once a day, but you'd be getting very low amounts of a few things, like copper and zinc.

They don't have much calcium and some of what they do have is calcium phosphate, which we don't absorb.  So you would still need to take calcium three or four times a day with it.  And of course B12, because that needs to be a sublingual, nasal spray or shots.  This vitamin has a lot of B12 but you won't absorb it due to the lack of intrinsic factor in your pouch.

So anyway, I think it's an OK vitamin if you want to use it and the price is OK for you.

Thank you Kelly for the info and yes, Nik I talked to Nancy about these.

With the NutraMetrix the ritual would be to take the multi once in the am... along with their Calcium complete and a 60mg iron chew from Bariatric Advantage along with the sublingual b12 every other day... then before dinner again take the calcium

this is per my nutritionist...

Kelly, will you check out the calcium compete and let me know what you think?

Thanks

The Vit A in this vits -is as Beta carotene - not really the best Vit A for us. If that you will be using -make sure to check your Vit A levels during blood work test. Mine were low even when I took app 5K per day vita A.

It's a combo of several types of calcium but the primary ingredient is calcium carbonate, which we can't absorb.  I'm sorry if your dietician is recommending this.  It's a bad choice.  Unless you can contact the company and find out how much calcium CITRATE is in it, and then adjust the dose accordingly.

Hi, here's something that you may consider useful:

Regardless of how much mg your calcium vitamins have, your body will not absorb more than 500, maybe even 400 at a time. If so, your body will disregard the rest.
It's why it's recommended to take the calcium twice a day or even three times (depending on the dr's recommendation but no more than about 1200/day)- once in the am and the other in the evening.
You need vitamin D to help the calcium pass through your gut and into your blood stream- it is then that the calcium can beadsorbed
Every body is different. The metabolism and the body's alkaline is different. If your body is more acidic, then you have better absorption of calcium, if not, just eat an orange or grapefruit or just take the vitamin D to help the body absorb the calcium.

There are so many thing the body needs like your Bs bc your body doesn't make it or how about our age factor---- the older we get the less enzymes our body creates.

If your body doesn't make it and it needs it, then you have to take it!
