Worse allergic reaction post RNY?

Wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I have had seasonal allergies as well as mild food allergies that are cross reactions to my seasonal allergies (oral allergy syndrome) for years. Yesterday I had a severe reaction where I developed swelling in my throat and had to call 911. After treatment I am doing much better (aside from my swollen eyes that look like I've been in a boxing ring).

I have since read that taking acid suppression medication (as I am for 6 months post RNY) can worsen these types of reactions by suppressing acid that breaks down the proteins which we react to so that more of the allergen reaches our digestive tract.

I am being scheduled to see an allergist but was curious if anyone out there has had any similar experiences.

I'm not aware of any allergies I may have, but I can honestly say I have had one day with a runny nose (mild cold) since my RNY over 6 years ago.  My support group leader, a RNY post op of 12 years, says that her allergies (airborne, like ragweed, etc.) have gone away 95% since her RNY. DAVE
