Has anyone had this problem or knows how to help resolve this issue? I called the nurse today to see if she has any ideas and she just told me to do whatever i can to get liquid in and talk with doc at my post op appt.

I had pain when drinking at first too. Turns out I was swallowing air at the same time and it hurt when I drank. It took me awhile to figure out how to drink with out swallowing air. Until them, I just had to take tiny sips. And I do mean tiny. And yes, thicker liquids seemed to cause me less problems.

UPDATE: I also wanted to add that even though I was told not to use a straw (which sounded silly to me) I used one and it helped big time!

Try small really small sips. I have found that a coffee cup lid helps me to take small drinks and depending on when your appointment is I wouldn't wait more than a day or two with this to contact the doctor. Hope all gets better. I had this problem right away in the hospital and hot drinks were the key.

I'm 4 weeks post-op and having the same experience.  My doctor said this is common and would gradually go away as I healed.  I have better luck with warm liquids and each day gets a little bit better.  Taking small sips and trying not to swallow air is very good advice.  Good luck!

OMG I had this exact thing. They thought I was crazy because it did not happen until I was 3 weeks out.

Good news, it went away!  I could drink warm liquids.

Try room temperature water, hot tea, coffee.  Just try and hope it passes quickly.
