How much does an RNY patient eat per meal at 4+ years out?

I have a family member who had rny 4 years ago, and I am shocked how much she can eat. Granted, I am only newly sleeved, and I know that my stomach will also change and my capacity won't always be so restrictive-- BUT for example, for Easter we had a potluck type of lunch. I made myself note what she had on her plate so I could ask you guys. She had a chicken leg, about 3oz of mac and cheese, 2ozof scalloped potatoes, about 2 oz. salmon, and about 10 chips.

Is this normal?? She was also sneaking sips of her husband's coke during the meal.

It depends on how big the scoops were. I have been told to eat no more than one cup of food per meal for life. Also if you drink when you eat you can push some food out making you able to eat more.

It is so nice of you to be concerned about whether or not this family member is hurting her/himself  by overeating. My doctor told me to eat about a sandwich size portion of food or about 1 cup per meal for the rest of my life. I was told no drinking for 30 minutes after eating and no carbonated drinks definitely not sweetened sodas. I hope s/he does not fall prey to this type of behavior often as s/he will regain and be miserable again and no one would want that for her/him.

To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.”― Marc Hack

She is four years out and I assume not in weight loss mode.  Consequently, it is not.  Recall also that her surgery is fundementally different than yours.  I could likely put down what you described here, given the chicken on a chicken leg is very little actual meat.  Stay focused on what your needs are.  There seems to be a period where many go through after being sleeved where they are astonished at the amounts others eat, food choices, and in general just food police type mentalities.  I went through it.  When I went to Chili's or something I was amazed at how much people around me would eat, even though just 2 or 3 months prior I would have done that and more.

I'm sure lots of people 4 years out had that sort of meal on a holiday ...   I'm not sure they had relatives telling everyone about it so it could be judged by a bunch of strangers

Probably normal.  I eat about a cup at a time five years out, sometimes a little more.

Although I'm not sure "sneaking" sips of a drink is normal.  I don't think "sneaking" food or drink is very normal behavior.  If I wanted some coke, I would just pour myself a glass.  Although I would not drink it during the meal.

Since she was drinking with her meal, though, I would expect her to be able to eat a bit more than if she wasn't drinking at the same time.  Drinking washes food out of the pouch, so you are able to eat more.

Oh I hate the food police watching my every bite! I say don't worry about what I or anyone else is eating. I know my plan, I know how much I can eat, and what I 'should' be eating... And you know yours :) unless your cousin is asking for advice, I'm sure after 4 years she knows what is normal for her body.

I used an app for my iPad called insta frame. The app might work on other devices too.
