canned cream soups versus homemade

I have started the liquid stage, which means cream soups, yogurt, etc. My mom bought me a few cans of low fat cream soups and I can not bring myself to eat them. The ingredients list scares me because it is so long and full of preservatives. I decided to make my own. I made a very yummy zucchini cream soup and all it had was chicken bone broth (homemade), zucchini, low fat milk, low fat shredded cheddar cheese, salt and pepper to taste. In my opinion my homemade soup is tastier, healthier, and all around better for me than the can of crap. Am I wrong for not following orders and creating my own cream soups? Tomorrow I will be making an asparagus cream soup. I also see my doctor tomorrow so I will put this question to the nutritionist. Please note, all I can eat is 2 oz of any cream soup.

You go girl.  If you feel like making soup then do it.  I like to make soup and freeze some of it.  I also like to know what is in, what I eat.  I may not catch everything but I do pretty well.  Good luck on your journey...

Sounds fine for the short time you are on liquids but you aren't required to have cream soups. If you do make them, don't carb load them with a bunch of vegetables.

Try using tomato-based veggie soups;  you can put all kinds of onion, garlic, zucchini, carrots, etc., all in chicken or beef broth.  Once they're cooked you can puree them in a blender or with a wand, although my surgeon told me that pureed could be anything that is less than a pencil eraser-sized morsel.

Or you can use your favorite soups and blenderize, heat, then after it's cooled a bit stir in a couple of tablespoonsful of unflavored protein.  I liked to use the minestrones but totally couldn't face clam chowders that were pureed.  They looked too pre-chewed;  ick.

This is considered the pureed stage? The next stage is canned meats and very well cooked veggies. According to my surgeons plan, anyway.

Yeah, I was surprised when my surgeon sent me home from the hospital with that instruction, but it worked out well for me.

The mantra of "chewchewchew, sipsipsip, walkwalkwalk" has always worked well for me, at whichever stage I was eating.  The only times I ran into problems was when I forgot the first part.  Urrrgh--being stuck and getting the foamies is absolutely my least favorite experience of this whole process.

Home made soups most likely have less sodium and stuff the can soup recipe. Home made allows you to control the content of your food, thus being more healthier. Good luck.

Good for reading the label! Liquids stage 1 or liquid stage 2; 1 is clear, 2 (1 & 2) is cream... no bit and pieces (?)

Stage 2, no bits and pieces.

IMO - you are not crazy. Homemade is always better choice.
