Hi, I wanted to share how dramatically RNY has changed some of my bloodwork considerably for the better, even after only five months!

In July 2013 I was finally diagnosed with type II Diabetes after probably 20+ years of insulin resistance. A1C was 7.3. I was on 2k Metformin and two shots of Byetta a day.

With that, it went down to 6.7 1/2014 and 6.0 4/24. Last week it came back normal (unmedicated since before RNY), at 5.4, though I'd like to get it a little lower. Fasting BS went from 130 1/2013 to 86 7/2015.

My triglycerides have always been crazy; when I was 19 they came back at over 900. 1/2014 they were over 800 and I was placed on Crestor. Those brought it down to the 500s by 4/2014. The triglycerides have always been a big concern for my doctor because my father has arrhythmia and has had seven ablations in an attempt to correct it, so they always run an EKG on me, which always comes back perfect :) And they ask a lot of questions about chest pain and seem mystified I have none...

After RNY I lost so fast I discontinued the Crestor on my own after the first couple of months. Last week my triglycerides were 153, which is 4 points above normal.

4/2014 they also placed me on 5k Vit D since my level was 23...I've been taking it ever since and my new measurement is 60. I used to work outside a lot and this year not at all, so I'm actually getting a lot less sun than I used to.

I get my vit labs drawn next month for my six-month bariatric checkup and I'm interested to see how they come out.

After all the good news, there is a little not-so-great. They confirmed I have orthostatic hypotension, and my thyroid came back a little low. So I get to add a thyroid pill. I'm actually hoping it will help resolve my ongoing fatigue. I never got that burst of energy post-op that many report and so I'm hoping treatment for hypothyroidism will help with that. Actually a lot of the symptoms are parallel to post-op WLS. Though I'm hoping I keep the coldness. I live in S. TX and I hated the heat before. Now I can tolerate it a lot better!

Though my electrolytes and salt came back normal, they were on the low side, but I am well hydrated. They are also concerned I've not been eating enough, so they want to review a week's food journal with me next week. My program is a little different from many; they strongly discourage weighing and measuring and instead have you eat only when hungry and stop at satisfaction, not fullness. I found this a lot harder than measuring! So I started tracking yesterday for the PCP review next week and I seem to be right on target from my reading here on the boards: 730 cals and 62 g protein. I finally broke a two-week stall and hit 179 this morning, so under my initial goal. I'm not sure where to shoot for next but at least ten and probably 20-25 more lbs to go, especially given that I'm not even six months out yet.

Great news.

Orthostatic hypotension is pretty common the first year postop. I actually passed out a couple of times. I was told to drink even more, and add salt to my diet. That should help with your electrolytes too.
