How long did you stay on protein drinks?

My doc is severely restricting my calories and carbs trying to see if I can break the stall and get back on track with losing.  I had been staying around 800 calories, eating solid proteins each meal, keeping carbs under 40 or 50 a day.  Now he wants me around 400 calories, 60g of protein, and 10 grams of carbs daily.  This means I will have to still drink a protein shake in the morning.  This, and luncheon meat and tuna salad will make me hit all of those goals.  It is going to be boring, but I would rather finally lose weight than have yummy food.

The thing I am worried about is that it means I will still be on a protein drink for a while.  That will bring me 30g of protein, but also 5g of carbs.  Its frustrating.  I feel like I should be past this part, but again, I want to lose weight more than eat whatever I want.  Just want some feedback on what others are doing.

My center encouraged me to get my protein from real foods as soon as it was possible. I still enjoy having a shake for breakfast and I'm almost a year out.

I stopped drinking them the minute I was cleared for real (soft) food.  I have a bunch in my fridge, but can't stand the thought of drinking one.  So burned out on them. I prefer getting my protein in solid form.

I stayed on them for well over two years.

My instructions were to eventually give up protein drinks for dense protein food choices instead.  I did give up store-bought protein drinks toward the end of year one.  However, I still enjoy a homemade version made with all kinds of healthy things like spinach leaves, wheat germ, berries, banana, protein powder, kefir, flaxseed oil, and more.

Can anyone suggest an alternative with that much protein but so few calories?   I would prefer dense protein or something different just to shake it up but I don't know what could be so protein dense but not take my calories up so high.

Its not as protein packed, but it is close.  I use that for the rest of my day basically.  today my breakfast was a protein shake for 160 calories and 30g of protein, and dinner was tuna for 100 calories and 14g of protein.

I still do a protein shake in the morning. After years of being on a diet plan (HMR), it's what I'm used to. Then im good to go until lunchtime.

Shrimp gives you a pretty good bang for your buck; 1 oz. is around 30 cals and 6 grams of protein.
