Someone told me that I shouldn't purchase my Puritans Pride rapid release vitamin A & D in gel caps but didn't know why. Does anyone else have an answer. I thought gelcaps would dissolve faster. Help! I need to order more, almost out. Thanks! God Bless and Best Wishes................Sandy

We only absorb dry Vitamin D3 because we don't absorb fats, those Vitamin D gel caps are filled with oil.

Not sure about the rapid release vitamin...I've never heard of it.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

Anything that is one of those oil-filled little footballs is not good for us. If ittis a dry powder inside, it's probably ok.

Do you know why that's the case, Grim? I've been taking the oil-filled capsules right from the start, and my vit D level keeps getting better with every lab draw. It's better now than it ever was pre-op. I've been planning to switch to the once a week dry D3 when I run out of my Costco-size bottle of capsules though.

I'm taking the oil filled capsules too. Can't wait to hear the answer on this one.

RNYers don't absorb fats as well as before surgery. While malabsorption of calories in general ends a year or 2 after surgery, some fat malabsorption is permanent. So if the vitamins are packed in oil, we won't get the full amount. You're likely absorbing some, but it's impossible to say how much, or if it will be consistent over time.

There are too many dry forms available to bother messing with the oil filled varieties.
