Myfitnesspal and a shocking discovery

So after reading a lot of posts today about tracking food and long term success, I decided to give it a try. Oh my gosh was I shocked! I have been doing real well about portion sizes and only eating to not be hungry instead of till full. I still had no idea of the numbers I was bringing in. So needless to say I will be tracking daily.

I do have one question. Is there a way to adjust the daily goals so that it is more post-bariatric surgery friendly? Right now it shows a ton of carbs I can have but no nearly enough protein. Of course I can always ignore those but I'm hoping I'm missing some setting or something.

If there is a way I haven't found it yet. MFP has a paid account that lets you adjust the macros but it's pricey IMO. I disregard the carb goal and just use it as a means to track where I am for carbs for the day.

Also, beware that if you eat less than 1000 calories a day MFP won't let you close out the day, they say it's unhealthy blah, blah. No big deal, it's not something you must do to track day to day.

And the exercise calories are off too, I wouldn't pay those any mind either.

you can change that in a website - not in the app.

Even from a phone or a tablet. When using tablet - makes sure it does not send you back to an app.

if can be changed with 5% increments.

I'm going to get on a computer tonight to see if that makes a difference. My goals always seem to default to what MFP thinks is best

Good for you! This is why tracking is so important because it helps us realize that things we thought were good choices really are not. To fix your macros, go to goals. I have mine set at 800 calories, 25% carbohydrates, 40% fat, and 35% protein.

How'd you do that? Any time I try and set my calories to 1000 it defaults back to 1499.

I do it on my computer. If you complete the guided set up where you put in your desired weight loss per week, then it changes the goals to what it thinks they should be. So, I always ignore it when it prompts me to update my goals based on weight lost.

You can alter it in the free app without being on a computer (at least you can for sure in the iPhone version, which is what I use) if you go to More>Goals>Calorie & Macronutrient Goals and then click on which macros you want to change.

That's what I've been doing, but it defaults to 1499 calories. I can never set my calories lower.
