1 week musings....

One week ago at this time, I was being wheeled back for surgery. I never hit that nervous, OMG, WTH am I doing stage...as a matter of fact, just last night I was telling my hubby that I know I've had surgery (my stomach is still quite sore, and I can't bend over well at all just yet), and I know in my head most of my stomach is useless and my insides have been re-routed...  But is it possible for me to still kind of feel like nothing happened? I mean, I'm only drinking my meals, but I'm not truly hungry so it's not really bothering me. I've napped, I've walked, I've tracked my water and protein intake. I've even spent a whole lot of love over a 4 oz bowl of hot and sour broth from our local chinese place (we lovingly refer to it as the Chiner).

I've not mourned the loss of my most loyal snack buddy. I'm not crying because I can't have a Diet Dr. Pepper... Or a Whataburger... Or breakfast burrito... Although I did profess my love and made lurid promises to my husband if he'd feed me a 3oz ribeye...

I'm at peace with all of this. I'm planning my puréed stage with such precision. Today I go grocery shopping so I can make eggface's melted Italian stuff (I can't remember the name at the moment), buying hummus, cottage cheese, and the makings for chili - We'll be going to the Paseo Arts Festival and a friend of ours hosts a huge party within walking distance each year, I'll bring chili for the crowd, and a small container of it puréed for me!

I'm cleaning out my closet before I go back to work tomorrow (packing up the winter clothes, and just putting those Spring clothes that fit me now closest, and seeing what I have, etc).

I seem to be good.

So.... Is all of this going to come down at some point and I'm going to have a breakdown??? Because I'm really feeling like an oddball here! I've read so much. I'm not in denial, I swear... I am/was/is completely expecting some kind of breakdown, crying, buyer's remorse, etc... And it's not here. Yet.

I guess until it I gets here, I'll celebrate my calmness, and just continue on!

Congratulations!  Enjoy it to the fullest!  Maybe your hormones will shift and you'll have a bad day, and maybe not.  Either way your attitude is what makes all the difference!  Just keep going one sip at a time!

Will you lose it? You could, in a couple of weeks or months. It tends to happen during the rapid ( what I think of as lightning round) weight loss phase. Hormones get released as we lose quickly and can make us kind of go bananas. You may also dodge that bullet.

It never really happened to me that I remember  ( but maybe I've forgotten. I DO remember being a moody ***** during my first few days on Optifast pre surgery. ) I also never experienced head hunger or cravings early out. I did have a quick, internal freak out as they were wheeling me in, as well as a brief buyer's remorse episode that first night, but neither of those things lasted more than a few moments.

FWIW, I think you went into this very well-prepared, and that's going to keep you grounded and may keep you from really going bonkers later on.

Oh yes, pre surgery I was a bear. I didn't do that part well at all...

I love your quote, btw!

Thanks! I think it's from a song, and it sums up my life perfectly.

I was pretty sure my hubby and kids would have placed me in solitary confinement had my utter *****iness had continued. Haha.

You may be able to tolerate it, but the spicy food you describe may give you trouble this early.  Generally, the chile, hummus, etc recipes are for people who are >2-3 months out.  Are those foods on your surgeon's list for the phase you are at?

I took the first couple of months to retrain my tastebuds to less processed foods, lower sodium, etc.  Also, II was told that your innerds take twice as long as your outer wounds to heal.  After a week, your margins may still be pretty raw. It was all I could do to get the 60-80 gms of protein in.

Also, You are not an odd ball.  Many of us made well-thought out decisions to have WLS and never looked back.  We were at peace when we woke up and did an internal check for buyers remorse and found none!

Congrats on good success!!

Well, I don't know. I got the ideas for food from folks around here. Hummus is not spicey at all, and while I was going to buy store bought, I am making the chili from scratch. My goal was to make a tame recipe anyway, and I was going to use ground turkey, not chopped beef. The Italian bake that egg face has on her website is definitely for the puréed stage from what I've read. Cottage Cheese is definitely tame, although I'm sure I'll be sprinkling black pepper on it because that's just what I do.

Obviously, according to my doctor's book, my shakes are my meals for the next few weeks (to accomplish the protein) but I get to add in these 'snacks' in between.

I'll definitely keep in mind the spice levels, though.

Thanks :)
