Elevated Vitamin B6 - May Be GREAT News!

I've been struggling terribly with neuropathy since I hit my goal and have been to all my docs and a neurologist and had multiple tests and labs.  It's scary, I'm a fall risk, my left side has symptoms similar to stroke, but I didn't have a stroke.  Exercise is difficult (wish I had a pool).

Today the center called me with the latest blood tests - my B6 (Pyridoxine) is elevated and may be the cause!!!  Okay, it's weird to be happy about this, but if all I have to do is re-evaluate my supplements (I take Bariatric Advantage EA) - I might start seeing some relief.

Please keep fingers crossed for me that this may be a simple answer!

PS:  Anyone else get "over-vitaminated" (is too, a word) on your supplements?  Would love to hear your story.

PPS:  Turns out B12 is quite high also (not as big a deal, though), and my B1 levels are normal (good news).

I hate to tell you - but it may take a while for B6 to get down. It took me over a year.

a lot of vitamin water drinks - proteins hakes, even calciums (like in costco brand) - have vit B6..

Good to know, H.a.l.a... I mean, so I can be prepared.  Did you have nerve damage or other symptoms?

at that time - Beside high B6 I had issues with low B12 and low iron... plus some other issues... nobody can tell for sure what caused what.

Well, I was finally able to download my test results and YEAH... My B6 is way up there.  Normal range is between 2.1 - 21.7.  My level is 60.8!!!  My surgeon just said test again in 3 weeks and he wants to see me right after that.  He's made no changes to my daily supplements or nutrition (???).  I'm still waiting to hear from my neurologist, but I go back to see her next month, too.  My NUT is useless - she thinks the test is probably inaccurate, so "wait & see" is her opinion, too (and stay away from chickpeas and liver, which I never eat anyway).

So, no real changes to anything at this point - I'm disappointed in the lack of action to correct this.  Dang HMO.

Hey there! New to the board and a friend brought this to my attention. I had bypass back in 1999 and started suffering with a slight tingle in my toes and whwn I went to a neuro he did labs and my b6 was slightly low. I was instructed to take 100mg of b6 and then all hell broke lose. Full blown head to toe neuropathy. I have been through every MRI imaginable, bone scans, so many labs it isn't funny to find out my b6 was then sky high.

As I stopped the b6 supplement I got somewhat better only to get worse again. Then finding out my b1, b3, and b5 were very low and now my b6 is low again. The burn comes and goes and it is misery.

So many drinks and foods have synthetic b6 added and now those make me burn and takes days to get out of my system. I had RNY and can't seem to get my nutrition up naturally. I have an appt at Mayo clinic coming up soon to see how we can get my numbers up to heal.

The neuro at Mayo doesn't believe in b6 toxicity or nutritional neuropathy. The gastrologist and no one else seems to get that bypass people don't absorb and I will keep suffering due to so many low b vitamins.

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and say your not alone. My friend that scopes out b6 boards and told me about this one also recommended a b complex vitamin that has no added b6. I have been taking 9 days and so far the vitamin has been great and not caused any crazy additional burning. Let me know of you want the name of it.
