I'm very excited today! It has been a long road to this point but I finally have approval to have my band removed and to revise to RNY! I honestly thought it would never come. Now I'm trying to work on head hunger and cravings until my surgery. I don't have a date yet but I'm a teacher and I'm hoping that it can be done this summer. Are there any high school teachers out there that have had the surgery during the school year? How quickly were you able to get back to work?

Hi there!  I had my surgery when I was in the classroom (high school as well).  I took six weeks off and went back to work feeling great.  Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish you the best, most successful surgery and a speedy and safe recovery!!!!

I'm hoping to have my band removed for RNY.  I'm impatiently waiting  on a response from the insurance company.

I'm not a teacher, but I went back to work after 10 days.  I felt and still do fee great.  I was mopping my kitchen floor the same week I had surgery.  Of course, I have a sit down job so I'm sure that helped.  I know teachers are on their fee a lot.  But I felt like I never had surgery.  And, the only reason I took 10 days off is I only work part time so part of those 10 days were my regular days off anyway.

I am a SPED teacher and I had my surgery on the Monday of spring break and was back to work the following Monday.  I felt pretty good but I was pretty exhausted for a while and would take a nap when I got home.

I'm not a classroom teacher, but I am in education (I used to teach elem).

I took off 4 weeks. I easily could have gone back in 2, but it was really important to take the time to heal and to set new routines that I wouldn't break.

Being a teacher means you have what...? 15 minutes for yourself at lunch? Barely time through the day to stop and rest...?

Give yourself the max time they will let you take so that you are rested, ready, and have really learned how to adopt habits that you can translate back to the classroom routine :)

Not a teacher, and I haven't had my surgery - but this is my plan!

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!

The biggest issue people face after surgery is not pain, but exhaustion. Naps will be your best friend, maybe for 4 months and longer.

Don't rush back. Take whatever time you can.

Thank you all for the responses. Seems like there is a wide range for different people on the amount of time off needed. I'm fortunate in that I could take off as much time as I need but that is such a difficult thing to do at the beginning of a school year. I'm frustrated that the process didn't end a bit sooner so that I could have had all this time during the summer to recover.
