Good canned chili or chili recipe

I am six months out of RNY bypass surgery and I am looking for a decent chili recipe.  I have tried a couple of canned brands but they are horrendous.  My go-to recipe is delicious but has too many grams of sugar.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

I have use one like this one and modified it with more kick of chili peppers and some liquid smoke

I never cared for cooking too much before, but now enjoying making recipe changes to get up the protein and get carbs to where I want them.

Sometimes I flop, but most times, due to eating small qtys now, really enjoy kicking up spices and flavors of foods

Can you use your own recipe and just use a sugar substitute?

Great Chili is so easy to make!  Get out the crock pot (6-6.5 quart).  Brown a pound and a half of lean ground beef.  Drain well.  Add to pot.  Brown a couple of medium onions with 3 chopped cloves of fresh garlic. Add to pot.

Drain and rinse beans.  Add 2 cans (all 16oz cans) of kidney beans, 2 cans of black beans, 1 can of Great Northern beans, 1 can of Pinto beans.  This can change according to what you like.

Add one large can (28oz) of crushed tomatoes and one large can of diced tomatoes.

Add a tablespoon of cumin and 2 tablespoons of chili powder, salt and pepper to taste

Cook for 8-10 hours.  Stir occasionally.

EASY!

Respectfully, the above recipe ingredient amounts made me smile---possibly a pre-WLS recipe that needs revision to post-WLS proportions.

I smiled because reading the quantity of cans of beans, it made me think-- at 1/2 cup portioned eating size, I'd have to freeze a whole bunch of this recipe or have company over to help eat it.  Best Wishes for a quick recovery and hope you find chili a favorite post-WLS go-to food, too.

My surgery is tomorrow and I already have a freezer full!

Good for you getting a jump start on your surgery. Freezing things does help. Even if it is something for the rest of the family and not yourself. It makes life after surgery easier if you are the cook in the family.
