Dumping? (copy of post Ontario Forum)

Not sure if this is dumping or not but HOLY!

I have been doing well, REALLY, REALLY well. Anyhow, I ate my scrambled egg and 1/2 Skyr for breakfast, liquids only for snack, lentil soup for lunch, then 1/2c Jello chocolate pudding (the low fat one). I got maybe two spoonfuls and have been vomiting since. I have lost not only the pudding but what feels like my whole lunch. As soon as I felt that tightness that comes if food gets stuck, I stopped eating the pudding. But, apparently, it was too late.

Is this dumping Syndrome? I understand it as a sudden flush of the stomach into the intestines, painful etc., usually caused by high fat, or high sugar.

Sorry that you are not feeling well...

I have never ever experienced dumping syndrome. I always followed the rules. I did know who has.

It is my understanding that dumping happens - 1 to 3 hours after eating. Each has slightly different symptoms, such as abdominal cramping, fast heartbeat, lightheadedness, and diarrhea. She also complains of feeling shaky and very unwell.

This usually happens when she has had something sweet that she shouldn't have had.

I have experienced what you have experienced following something that didn't agree with me. This would happen early on in my journey.

I liked to call it "pissed off pouch syndrome". Lol

I would reset & go back to fluids & protein shakes for a couple of days. Give it a chance to rest!

Start over... I am over 5 months out and it does get easier.

Hope this helps!

Good luck and feel well...

Sandra

Thanks Sandra! Sorry I missed the meeting tonight. I am feeling better but am sticking to protein shake and liquids for today and tomorrow... Cannot handle vomiting. HATE that feeling.

I'm not sure if that's dumping. I've had dumping a couple of times. I'm usually nauseous feel dizzy and have to lie down. I'm wondering if it was to much food? If i'm reading this correctly your only two weeks out from surgery. I think that's a lot of dense food for early days. I'm 8 months out and have a hard time eating a scrambled egg. Are you still drinking protein shakes?

yes I am only 12 days out of surgery. The NP said to add food as I can tolerate it. The only thing that was new is the pudding. I guess my stomach said NO WAY!

I have been healing very quickly, the NP was very impressed and I am on Soft foods (technically). I have been doing 1 egg and yogurt for almost a week and lentil soup for that long too. The pudding was the only new thing. :(

I'm just going to take it easy and start fresh Wednesday.

Thank you for your input!

Sounds like you ate too much. You actually have to get the food into your intestine to experience dumping.

Not sure why you're eating chocolate pudding 12 days after having bariatric surgery. If you have to eat pudding you should at the very least eat the no sugar type.

I am eating the chocolate pudding approved by my WLS centre. Maybe It was too rich or maybe it was too soon after lunch, 1.5 hrs, unsure.

Thank you for your input. It is appreciated.

13 years later I still can't eat pudding, not even sugar free. Too rich for me

Could be the case.

If that is the situation, too bad for me. I love chocolate pudding. I love not vomiting more.... LOL

Thanks for the input.
