I feel like a slug

Today is the first day where I have felt super duper slow and tired....almost like I'm moving in slow motion sometimes, even though I know I'm not. I still kept my same routine - walking, sipping, tooting, but I am SO TIRED.

Hubby's theory is that my body has finally used up it's glycogen stores and is using fat for energy, which is much less efficient and doesn't do on-demand energy as easily as when it's burning food. Does that sound right?

Otherwise I feel fine, a little tender around just one incision but aside from that and being foggy/tired I'm golden.

no, not really. It is the after effects of anesthesia and the trauma to your body. Perfectly normal and can go on for weeks.

Plus, you're taking in considerably fewer calories than your body is used to, so you're liable to feel sluggish from that as well. I know I felt like crap from about weeks 2-3, and it was only when I started eating solid protein at week 4 that I started feeling better.

Dehydration can cause that also. Not getting enough salt when you doing low carb diet may cause "internal dehydration" even when you drink min amount of water.

Or body retain water 2 ways - one is glycogen the other is sodium and other minerals. When we go on low carb diet- as we use glycogen - or body also gets rid of the water - that is the first rapid 7-8 lbs people lose on low carb diet.

All the protein shakes and SF jello, etc - have very little salt. Sodium, potassium and magnesium are critical. Drinking any type of stock- or bone broth work added salt can really help. Even adding a pinch of salt to things like protein shakes can help.

I felt tired for several weeks after surgery and then the energy came back. Just take it easy and keep doing the right thing and you will feel better.

Yes, being incredibly tired after this surgery is quite common. Your body just had major surgery and your not consuming a lot of calories. Your energy will start to come back slowly. I know for me it took weeks, probably a couple of months. But it does come back, make sure your getting your protein and liquids and vitamins. Good luck, cheers.

I was exhausted the first few weeks, and even when I felt better, I would exhaust easily.

When your body is using fat for energy it is actually the opposite of what you describe. You experience better sleep, better mood, increased energy (sustainable energy). You may experience some unpleasant symptoms when you transition to Ketosis, but it is short lived, also it is usually the result of a mineral imbalance or electrolyte imbalance

Had the same thing happen to me. I have never felt that tired in my life! I am 6 weeks out and it has gotten much better so hang in there, rest as much as you can you are still healing.

I find myself quite easily tired too. I chalk it up to recovery, plus my wonky thyroid. I'm sure our vitality levels will pick up as we get further out from surgery, and of course as we lose more weight! Soon we'll be slinky speed demons instead of slugs! At least I sure hope so!

I didn't even think about my thyroid contributing to it too!
