Orthostatic Hypotension?

Hey all. Lately I've been getting fairly light headed when ever I stand up. I don't see black or anything, but my vision blurs and I feel a bit like I'm floating and spinning at the same time. It passed fairly quickly, so not super annoying. Does this sound like OH?

If so, I've heard it's pretty common post op. Does it go away? How long does it take on average? Should I tell my surgeon about it? And of course, any tips to help it improve?

Thanks! And sorry for all the questions! :)

It's very common, and usually goes away by the time you are finished losing weight.

Tell your doctor, especially if you are on a NO med still. Most of us have to go off them pretty soon after surgery.

Drink more fluids. Then even more. Add salt and electrolytes. And get up in stages. If you are lying down, sit for a couple of minutes, then stand. Stand for a minute before walking. Then go drink some more.

Thanks! I'll definitely intake more salt and water.

I get dizzy too. It happens when I bend over and straighten up, if I've been on my bike for any length of time, and lately also happens when I'm lying down and turn my head quickly. My blood pressure goes really low sometimes. I just tell my doctor, drink plenty of water, and keep checking my blood pressure (as he instructed). I can't wait until this passes as I hate it. I actually see stars sometimes, but thankfully not too often.

It's weird as I think my eyesight has changed too. I just got new glasses last year and think I need a new prescription already as they bother me when I wear them.

Oh yikes! Bending at the waist is a no no to me. The only time I thought I might see stars was when I went to pick something up and stood up way to fast.

Do you check your blood pressure with a cuff? Or is there another way?

funny enough, I was reading through old posts from waaaay back and I saw someone else say their vision change too.

I had to buy a blood pressure monitor for home use. It has a cuff. My Dad has the automatic one, and mine is the old fashioned manual one with a squeeze ball to pump it up. I also use the one at Walmart whenever I'm there.

I'll have to do a search for vision change as I haven't seen any posts like that.

Sounds like it. It is my new normal. I have low blood pressure and also a low pulse rate. I have fainted a couple of times, but have learned to be more mindful. I always stand up in stages like Grim suggests. When getting out of bed in the morning I sit up and then kick or pump my legs (exercise helps), then I stand. For me I find it is worse first thing in the morning and late at night when I'm naturally less active.

I drink plenty and am a Saltaholic so I'm hoping my body will just adjust over time and it will go away.

I have a blood pressure cuff at home.(ordered off of amazon)

You may need to try to get more salt- minerals. During summer - I sometimes take salt pills - capsules (sold in bike or exercise stores) when I know I will be out - working out or just out for a outdoor concert. really makes a difference how my body handled the stress of heat.

hiking - I woudl take one capsule every 2 hours plus drink water. It allowed me to hike better, longer and be less tired after.

Didn't even know they made stuff like this! Good to know.

I am 4 weeks out and have the same issues. I was actually wondering if the vision changes were related to vitamin deficiencies. If you read symptoms of a lot of vitamin deficiencies they include vision changes.
