2mos. post RNY. Down 50 lbs... Food has been a challenge since surgery. Nothing taste the same....Not complaining, this is part of it and not a bit of regret here...But finding I like salty and can't stand anything that's sweet and Boy, do they put sugar in EVERYTHING! So really loving my homecanned tomato juice.. (no sugar) Does anyone know if the acid in it will hurt my pouch.??

I just had surgery on 9/11 and my doctor and Nutritionest said it was ok If I had tomato soup, ate it yesterday with no problems.

When I was on a ppi, I had to stay away from tomato juice because it's acidic. Once I was off it & cleared for all foods I was able to have it again with no problems, but I try to limit acidic foods in general.

Two months post RNY, I wanted everything spicy. Frank's Red Hot sauce went on everything. I drank lots of tomato juice too. It was a phase I went through and I liked sweet again after about a year. I was lucky that I had no heartburn or reflux.

As long as you feel good, the juice should be fine.

I drank a lot of virgin Bloody Marys early on.

I ate Pico de Gallo with avocado and shrimp till I thought I would turn into a shrimp at that stage. Lots of Pico. That said, many months later I did in fact end up with an ulcer. The gastro doctor said it was unrelated but proceed at your own risk. To me...fresh spicy stuff is 100% worth the risk.

I was told to avoid tomato because it was acidic.

It may be too acidic. You can always try a small amount. Maybe drink it with a cracker or 2 so you're not just putting straight tomato juice into an empty stomach?

I would stay away from crackers.

I think the main concern others voiced was the acidity but my issue with it was the sugar content in almost all commercial sauce/soups on the market. I just make my own now (we have tomato in our garden).

you are right .. Sugar is added in all processed tomato products.. What I drink is my home canned juice.. NO SUGAR ADDED.
