Struggling

My dad passed last Wednesday. We buried him Sunday. Needless to say I'm stressed out. We sat Shiva for two days. We are Reformed Jews, it was up to my mom. Usually it's seven days. Food everywhere and I could not eat anything. Last night we had Chinese and all I had was a bit of steamed chicken. My tummy still aches.

Of course family members and friends who haven't seen me in a very long time said I looked great, albeit thin. Ok, I deal with it.

I'm managing sugar free Jello, popsicles, Quest bars, eggs, and baked chicken. That's about it. Trays upon trays of deli and assorted sweets kept arriving.

i'm going back to work tomorrow. My mom really needs my help. I'm just so stressed out and before surgery, I'd just eat. But no appetite and I don't even want to eat anyway. I'm eating way too many popsicles. Sugar free. I'm sticking to my three meals and a Questbar. I dropped weight but hopefully it will even out. Trying not to go below 130.

I found that a little bit of brown rice with two soft boiled eggs on top helps.

Any suggestions? I wish I could take more time off from work.

Thanks for letting me vent.

sorry for your loss

I suggest going to eggface

http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ she has some really good ideas.

I personally do not think a little rice is gonna hurt you everything in moderation. I did not want to go under 130 but have settled at 125.

Big hugs my thoughts are will you

Thank you. I go to egg face a lot. She has great recipes. I'm too stressed to make my go to chili. Maybe on Friday.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Just focus on getting your fluids and as much protein as you can and take gentle care of yourself.

I?m sorry for your loss. Can you bring all of your food to the Shivah? I had to do this for the death of a close family member. The first day was a disaster for me, because of all the food and I sat near the dessert table. Then I brought only the food I was going to eat and stayed away from the dessert table. This allowed me To be strong through the rest of the Shivah. If you can?t bring your own food in due to your religion, maybe you could prepare from what is already there while you?re still full and not tempted. I just made Tupperware meals and ate that. My family was very supportive so no issues. Good luck

All I have is sweets and taking them to work tomorrow. They are all boxed and wrapped up. Doesn't even tempt me. No appetite. The deli trays are long gone. I ate the smoked whitefish, salmon, and lox. Plus dill pickles; my favorites. Nothing else appealed to me.

Sorry about your dad.

Sounds like you rocked your post op diet. The sweets are an issue but most of us would say the deli tray is fair game. No?
