Just curious about your sugar experience

I have not had any sugar in the year since my surgery. I am seriously afraid I will dump and I'm seriously afraid that I won't. I imagine a lot of you feel or felt the same way at some point.

On the menu thread and other places I see people posting about sugary foods they have. No judgement here, I'm really just curious! For those who have had sugar - at what point did you decide to try it? Why and what happened? Do you regret it?

I have not had a lot of sugar. I am afraid!! Last week at work, I had 2 bites of a cranberry bliss bar. I am a cook and we made a knockoff Starbucks recipe. After about 5 minutes, I had a weird dizzy sensation and I felt really hot. I felt like I was going to pass out. I felt like i couldn't talk or function. It lasted about 10 minutes. It was scary and I plan on never doing that again!! I also ate a beef stick hoping to try and counteract the sugar.

That definitely sounds like reactive hypoglycemia.

Rh does not happen in 5 min. Maybe in 30min - the earliest? typical is 1-2 hour after ingesting items with too much sugar- carbs. Even proteins can trigger RH.

No, a reaction that quickly is simple dumping.

I've never experienced RH, but from what I've read on here (enough to be dangerous) that is what is sounds like.

I think your reaction is happening too quickly to be RH.

I have the same experience with sugar. I avoid it and don't miss it at all.

I had my first little desert at about 10 weeks.

Ive never really dumped but have had bouts of reactive hypoglycemia. Honestly RH keeps me much more disciplined than fear of weight gain. Simple carbs can also be just as bad as sugar if not worse.

RH sounds worse than dumping!
