Calorie Question after Getting back on Track

I know.. anotherrr calorie question lol

I have just seen so many differing opinions when I searched past posts regarding how many calories to try to remain under to lose weight when you are a few years out - a lot said 1000, some said that was too low and would slow metabolism further, I even saw one post that said 'most vets say 700 or under'. I know that I am putting protein forward and have not had any starchy carbs and sugars... Just confused about the calories now

Thanks guys !!

I thought I saw a post somewhere about average calories per pound of body weight... 10 calories per pound to maintain? And I think the wide range you are referring to is because we are all so different... age, weight, activity level, all factor in. My doc told me last week he thinks metabolism is actually a very narrow range for people in general and it boils down to calories in, calories out. You are further out than I am, but I aim to keep my calories below 1000 a day and when I do I lose, very slowly. I am 59, do not walk much due to a bad knee that is being replaced in a few weeks but I am pretty active.

Good luck getting on track!

When you are first out from surgery it is easy to eat 500-600 calories a day. Not so much the further out you ate.

I think eating sub-1000 calories is the General consensus. Exact numbers will vary. I always gave myself a range like 750/950.... days I picked fish would be less than days I picked steak.

The whole slow your metabolism is not proven.... not everyone but many people's maintenance calories are way higher than their weight loss calories.

You need 10 calories a day to maintain one pound. If you want to maintain 150 pounds then eat 1500 calories. To lose one pound a week cut 500 calories and eat 1000 a day.

Do your own math for your own maintenance weight.

I have tried every gimmick imaginable and finally realized it all comes down to calories.

You will feel more full and lose slightly faster on high protein and low carb. It is about a 10% advantage. In ten weeks you would lose 10 pounds on higher carbs and 11 on low carb.

The line that "too few calories will slow your metabolism" is a load of bunk. :)
