Roux en Y

Hi All

I had my sleeve done in March 2016 and have lost all my required weight. About 3 months ago I started getting terrible reflux. I had a scope done which showed the valve between the oeshapagus and stomach has disintegrated and I have severe reflux and heartburn.

The surgeon advised the only option is to convert the sleeve to a Roux en Y bypass. I am so worried about "dumping syndrome" and being "malnourished" as I already weigh 61kgs.

If anyone could share some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards

Sam

only about 30% of us dump, and if you turn out to be a dumper, you can control it by watching your sugar intake.

Malnutrition isn't common as long as you keep on top of your supplements. It happens to some, but it's far more common in people who slack off on their vitamins.

That's a great statistic! There is so much misinformation surrounding WLS in general, especially the details and even among WLS patients.

I was so surprised when I didn't get dumping (or at least I think I don't have it) and thought something was wrong with me because "everyone dumps and it's so bad".

As for the malnutrition, as catwoman said, fairly rare and limited to those who slack on vitamins. Whats far more common is people posting about regain.

Having my revision this week. I only have about 10 lbs left to lose. My surgeon said I would only lose a little weight with the revision (and would gain it back eventually). I know another person who was at goal when she had her revision and lost about 13 lbs. So apparently we are not going to dwindle down to nothing.

Wishing you all the best! I love my RnY! When I had mine, my surgeon also repaired my hiatal hernia. I haven't had any heartburn since then. You will feel such relief when that is no longer afflicting you! Just keep on top of your supplements and your bloodwork through the years to come.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am so ready to get this over with and stop suffering every single day with this horrible reflux.
