Topic: RE: Opinions on Bowel Problem?
I have been experiencing a lot of painful abdominal cramping similar to bad diarrhea pains with no diarrhea off and on for a couple days.  I am having a lot of soft small bowel movements though.  I have missed two days of work because the pain has been so bad.  The bariatric nurse told me a couple weeks ago to take MiraLAX every day and two stool softeners daily because I was massively constipated and had impaction.  Anyways, now this is going on so I called her this morning and she said she thinks it is constipation and to use Fleets and a suppository.

Has anyone else had this happen?  Could this be something other than "constipation?"  Do I need to go see my doctor?

I also have my period right now, could that have something to do with it?

I know this is kinda TMI but I am a little worried about it.

Thanks!

Topic: RE: If you are constipated, do not put off taking something!
I think I'm going to get some Miralax and take it every other day with stool softeners.  I do not want to go through this again!
Topic: RE: If you are constipated, do not put off taking something!
I haven't had a bowel movement since last weekend.  I kept putting off taking milk of mag.  I was severely impacted today and that was one of the worst feelings in my life!  I definitely learned my lesson!  I just wanted to make sure no one else makes the mistake I did.
Topic: RE: Pain with going back to work (5 weeks postop)
I took four weeks off, but if I had to I would have went back in two or three.  Unfortunately I don't know anything about medical leave since I took off without pay.  Good luck on your surgery in Sept.!
Topic: RE: Pain with going back to work (5 weeks postop)
Thanks Jennifer!  I am also having the same problems with my clothes!  They are either too big or too small.  Guess I will just wear the big ones even if I do look a little weird.  How long did it take for you to start feeling better?  I am hoping this goes away sooner rather than later!
Topic: RE: Pain with going back to work (5 weeks postop)
I went back to work this week and my abdomen hurts.  Before I went back to work I was feeling good and in no pain.  I have had aching pain, so much that I can barely drink water now since it hurts.  I have a desk job and sit all day.  I also have to wear "work attire" so I have to wear regular pants and not my stretchy pants I was wearing after surgery.  Could that have something to do with it?  I don't know if anyone else has had this problem.  Thanks for your feedback!
Topic: RE: let's play the protein shake game
I ordered a ton of samples preop.  I can't stand any of them!  I've tried Unjury (all of them), Chike (all of them, waaay too thick), Syntrax Nectar (just nasty), and some from GNC.  Before surgery I was drinking EAS 100% Whey Protein in chocolate flavor and liked it then since it is pretty thin, not foamy, and mixes well in a shaker bottle.  I still like it after surgery but I am getting really sick of it.
Topic: RE: When did you start taking iron postop?
Hi!

I am 4 weeks postop and started my vitamins a couple days ago.  In my book it says to start taking iron at 3 months postop.  When did everyone else start taking it?

Thanks!
Topic: RE: Question about pills after surgery.
They are pretty tiny so you could take them whole.  But, I heard that they don't get absorbed right after gastric bypass.  I heard that most people use either Mirena IUD or Nuvaring.  I am not positive on this, but this is what I have heard.
Topic: RE: Pain Reliever
I took regular Tylenol but I used a pill cutter and cut them in half.  You should be able to take pills that are about the size of a pencil eraser.
Topic: RE: Soooooo Was everyone on soft foods b4 leaving the hosp??
I am currently 4 weeks postop.  I was told full liquids for 3 weeks, purees for 1 week, and then regular food after that.
Topic: RE: Portion Confusion (4 weeks postop)
Thanks everyone!  I thought it sounded kinda wonky!  I think I'm going to do 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup instead of 2 tbls.  I am guessing once I get out of the pureed stage it will be a little less.  I have a followup in a couple weeks and I will definitely be bringing this up!  Thanks again!
Topic: RE: Portion Confusion (4 weeks postop)
Oh, I also forgot to mention that I am only supposed to eat 3 meals a day and no snacks.  A total of 6 tbls of food per day just does not seem like enough nutrition to me, especially for 3 months!  What was everyone else's portions like around 4 weeks postop?
Topic: RE: Portion Confusion (4 weeks postop)
I tried looking this up in the archives but could not find anything, so I am asking it.

My surgeon's guidelines say to only have 2 tbls of food per meal for the first 3 months. I am currently in the pureed stage and found out I can tolerate about 1/2 cup or less of pureed food. Should I be limiting this to 2 tbls? Does 2 tbls sound crazy for 3 months? It doesn't seem like enough to me, so I am asking for other opinions.

Thanks!
Topic: RE: HERES A POST OP NEW TOPIC
I am 3 weeks postop and have slept in a recliner since I got home from the hospital.  It was painful to lay down but now it is just uncomfortable.  I sleep in a recliner most of the night and then move to the bed for a couple hours at this point.  Hopefully I can sleep in bed full time soon!
Topic: RE: 1 month post op
I got a whole bunch of protein shake samples and hate all of them because they are all way too sweet.  I do like EAS 100% whey protein in chocolate flavor (23 grams of protein) as it is not too sweet.  I don't know if you have tried that one or not.
Topic: RE: Bowel Movements
I have had the same problem.  I am 16 days postop and have had to take milk of mag at least 2 times already.  Make sure you take something for it though so you don't get impacted.  I know doctors want us to be having bowel movements.
Topic: RE: Not head hunger.
I am going through the same thing.  I have to be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks and I have 6 more days until I can have pureed food.  I feel really hungry and I can barely stand to be around my husband and kids because they get to eat normal food.  They just ordered pizza for dinner.  Eeek!  I can't tolerate more than one Fudgsicle or else I feel nauseous so I have been on protein drinks, water and tomato soup.  I keep chalking my hunger up to head hunger but its driving me nutto!  I am already dreaming about purees next week.  I knew this was going to be hard but holy cow!  Hang in there and it will get better.  I just wanted to let you know you are not the only one.
Topic: RE: Liquid diet constipation?
Hi!

Should I worry about being constipated on a liquid diet?  I haven't had any solids for 2 weeks as I am 14 days postop.  Right after surgery I had watery poo for a few days and then it dried up.  I didn't go for over 4 days so I took some milk of mag after which I had a couple watery poos.  I haven't had a bowel movement in over 4 days again and I don't know if I should take more milk of mag or not worry about since I am only on liquids and can't really get impacted.

I know this is kinda gross, but I appreciate any advice or opinions on this.

Thanks!
Topic: RE: Side sleeping postop
Wow! Thanks everyone! At least I now know I am not the only one who has had problems with this.
Topic: RE: Side sleeping postop
Hi!

I am 11 days postop and still unable to sleep on my side.  I have been sleeping in a recliner ever since I got home from the hospital because it is really uncomfortable and somewhat painful to lay on my side.  I attempted it the other night and woke up in the morning in a lot of pain.  I am curious, does anyone else have or had this problem?

Thanks!
Topic: RE: How long was your liquid diet postop?
Thanks everyone! I really love this board for info and support!
Topic: RE: How long was your liquid diet postop?
I'm actually doing pretty good on water.  I usually drink water instead of Crystal Light and such and I am getting in the amount I am suppose to.  I think I am going to add another protein drink daily.

Thanks!
Topic: RE: How long was your liquid diet postop?
I think so too Kelly.  Thanks!
Topic: RE: How long was your liquid diet postop?
Hi!  I am just curious what everyone else's postop diet was like.  I am 9 days postop and I am already sick of liquids.  My surgeon wants me on 3 weeks of liquids, then 1 week of pureed, and then start regular food after that.  I am only suppose to have 1 protein drink a day and that does not seem like enough to me and I have been thinking about adding another one daily.

Also, I have been feeling hungry.  Could it just be psychological hunger?

Thanks!
