Topic: RE: Slowly falling off the wagon !!
Start using a food tracking program and go back to the basics. Protein first,.at least eight glass of water, but not for thirty minutes after you eat. Exercise. Vitamins. Review "the rules." Get back in the mindset.

You can do it. And sooner than later would be best.

Yes! Exactly. When they take away options, it is a step backward.

I'm not talking about blocking people. I'm talking about the block or area where you type in a reply.
Topic: RE: Calling all newbies starting this process...

Since you are Medi-Cal, have you posted on the California state board?  I have no idea how active that board is, but you might find someone who went through the process with Medi-Cal.  Also, posting on the main board might help.

Topic: RE: OT - my back is really bad again

I am sorry.  I don't know exactly what type back problems you have, but I know they're bad.  I know with sciatica problems, you're only supposed to do the exercises as a preventative when you're not having problems (like between sciatica episodes).  I've no idea what I'm talking about in your case, but maybe you should just baby it for a while?

Topic: RE: OT - Problems with OH site changes. Any body else? Any suggestions?

This is the first time I've been able to post since OH made the changes to this site.  I usually post from work when I have a free minute or during breaks/lunch.  I just don't have much opportunity at night or weekends to get on the computer.  I always had to use the "text" option from work and now that that is gone, The posting block is not there.  I have emailed OH help and even sent them a screen shot.  I feel like taking away options for using different posting formats is a step backward.  Anyway, it makes me sad that all I can do now is lurk unless I can find a little time at home like tonight. Anybody else have this happen?

OH says, oh they're going to get it fixed, but nothing has been done.  Also, when I click on "Message  Board" link above it goes to various ads instead of taking me back to the RNY board.

Topic: RE: I'm home from the hospital
Walking will help work the gas out. Glad you are safely home and welcome to the other side!!
Topic: RE: Wishing I would've never done this
Everyone says it will get better because it WILL get better!

Some of how your feeling may be hormone related.

Count your blessings, and I mean this in the kindest way. So many want this surgery and can't get it and then there are those who had it and have complications. Hang in there! Buyer's remorse in the beginning is normal and so is the fact that the scale will not move every day.

Some day soon you are going to be SO happy you did this.
Topic: RE: There it is...my 1st blah day
Sorry you had a bad evening last night. You're probably right that it has caused a not-so-good day today. Sometimes, especially when it's only been a few days since your surgery, you need to kick back a little and just rest. I admire that you've done your walk, vits, etc. anyway. Here's a hug and hope for a better day tomorrow.
Topic: RE: Am I wrong to feel this way?
Wow. You are totally being taken advantage of. Looks like you're carrying the brunt of the burden and they can't or won't see the problem.

You are not being selfish at all. I don't have an answer, but just wanted to support you.
Topic: RE: Endoscopy and Dilation?
I had three dilations. You should not wait to get to the point that you need to go to the ER in my opinion. You know the symptoms. If you start "closing back up" you should know it and you should call your surgeon's office. But there is nothing you can do to keep it from happening. Some of us develop this scar tissue and some don't.
Topic: RE: 17 Months 2 weeks post op
You have done so great! Keep it up. You will get there! You're right it is a journey for life.
Topic: RE: RNY instead of Sleeve
I think your doctor is right, but in the end I guess you have to make the decision. Lots of VSGers have to later revise to RNY or DS. You do have a high BMI and all the sleeve does is restrict the amount you can eat for a period of time.

What ever you decide, best wishes!!
Topic: RE: Walking? How much?
Your body doesn't even know what's going on at 1 week post-op. You may even have fluids built up in your system still from the surgery. Right now, you need to concentrate on getting your nutrients in per your surgeon's eating plan, and on drinking your water. If you are cleared for vitamins, make sure you're taking them. And yes, move around (walk a little every hour). But don't over-do it. You just had major surgery. Rest is important too.

When you go back for your post-op checkup it would be a good time to weigh since you don't have a scale yet. At some point get a scale, but don't over-use it. Don't weigh every day or you will drive yourself crazy. This surgery will work for you. Don't worry.
Topic: RE: To Old Timers ...
I'm a 2006'er and was right there with you until I came back here. Getting and giving support has helped me tremendously get back in the WLS state of mind.

I personally HAVE to eat at least 6 times a day. I still do pretty well with my vitamins. I don't drink with meals and I try to get my protein from real food.

I don't know why, but the thought of going to Weigh****chers just gives me a bad feeling. That's what I did BEFORE WLS. I know it has helped others and it's a personal choice, but I just couldn't do it. It just seemed depressing to me.

Best thing to do is go back to basics:
Protein first - track your food using an online tracker like myfitnesspal, Spark People, of the one here on OH
At least 8 glasses of water a day
Vitamins
Exercise - I am doing the couch to 5K program

You can do it!! 35 lbs is definitely lose-able (is that a word??)
Topic: RE: Husbands RNY
Seems like around the 6 week mark, I started to feel less tired. Of course for the first 3 months I was struggling with a reocurring stricture, which kept me from getting good nutrition.

Just keep encouraging him to get in the protein, water and vitamins. He will bounce back probably in the next few weeks.
Topic: RE: Doing a Happy Dance!!!!
Excited for you! That is great news.
Topic: RE: Happy I got sick
Six years out here and my stomach still kicks me back in line. Not enjoyable, but a good reminder.
Topic: RE: GUESS WHAT GUYS???????
A Halloween surgery! Maybe everyone in the OR will have on costumes! That would be an entertaining way to go under. Best wishes for an uneventful surgery!!
Topic: RE: Guess Who Has Two Thumbs & A Surgery Date???!!
Congrats! And don't be skerrred. You'll do fine!
Topic: RE: Very discouraged - still no weight loss
NOT eating will make it worse. Your body has likely gone into starvation mode. Also, like someone has already said, you lost a large amount pre-surgery, so that can cause slower weight loss. Eat something appropriate and walk.

Like Kelly said, you may need to speak with your surgeon or at the very least your nutritionist.
Topic: RE: Just venting and feeling down...
Good point. Beans would be an excellent addition.
Topic: RE: feeling like crap
I think I would also ask them to run some blood tests tomorrow as well. That lightheaded/dizzyness thing can be a little worrisome. Hope you have someone to drive you.
Topic: RE: Just venting and feeling down...
OK. Well your protein looks really good. Can you add in some green veggies somewhere? Might need some good carbs.
Topic: RE: feeling like crap
Push fluids and make sure you're getting all of your vitamins especially your iron!

What is happening is that your hormones are all out of whack. Hormones are stored in fat cells. During the rapid weight loss phase, your body is shedding those fat cells and the hormones are pouring into your system. This can cause much heavier than usual periods and monstrous mood swings.

Hang in there. Good that you're getting to see the doctor tomorrow.
