Topic: RE: 8 Day Cruise - Advice Anyone?

I've only cruised post-op.  I went on cruises with no casino (Disney), did drink minimally - I have a 1 drink limit and you can request skinny ****tails.  Food wasn't a problem - they had "light" choices on the menu that worked with "the rules" and offered a variety of SF desserts.  I did hit the gym, booked active excursions and generally stayed busy.  The spa / fitness center should offer some low impact classes or activities.  If dancing doesn't hurt, hit the clubs.

Have a great trip!

Topic: RE: Alone on Thanksgiving-BY CHOICE-Vent

I like your plan.  I'm post-poning the holiday until Saturday.  I have everything I need to make a nice Mexican meal on Thursday.  We're excited that we'll have no where to go - and no pressure to do difficult things -  like get dressed.  We stopped traveling a while ago.  My family just won't come my direction... usually seem ok to see me... but the road runs both ways.  I'm happier not spending the day with extended family too.

Have a very good day!

Topic: RE: What are you doing/eating today? Tuesday Edition.

Good Morning!  Good to see you again Beth!  Don't be so hard on yourself -- it's so easy to get off track & so hard to get back on.

Today's Eats:

B - power crunch

L - lean cuisine (not my normal but I'm feeling lazy)

D - ??? have a 6:30pm meeting, so something quick

Movement - off day given my evening meeting.  BUT -- I registered for the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon in February.  I'll be training hard for the next 100 days.  Must cross the finish line!

Have a good day,

Laura

Topic: RE: Bathroom problems

I have spoken to my surgeon about this issue in the past.  He did recommend imodium.  I didn't take it because I usually have the opposite issue and was afraid to aggravate that.

Hope you feel better.

Topic: RE: What are you eating/doing today? Saturday!

I'm at work -- making up for a Friday afternoon off.  Not that I have to, except our audit starts on Monday.  Friday was spent house hunting, we're looking to switch school districts.  I have a lot of anxiety about this -- I can't afford a private school and the other town doesn't have a school system so they give school choice vouchers.  However, the homes are a lot more money -- and that's not for "more house".  We could be looking at a downgrade.  Sigh.

My eating this week has been about the same -- except that I gave up pretzels.  As of this am, I am down 6lbs.  My weight is back to my comfort range... 126 this am.

Food today:

B - 1/2 breakfast burrito

The rest of the day is pretty unplanned.  Need to get to work & work on my anxiety.  Maybe look into on-line mortgage pre-approval this weekend.  Yuck.

Topic: RE: It's Wednesday! What are you up to and what are you eating?

Only day 2 of avoiding the pretzel jar for me... BUT - I lost 4lbs yesterday.  Clearly jus****er retention (my plumbing is it's ordinary clogged)  but it put me back into my normal range.  Pretzels really aren't my friend.  I wish salt didn't taste so good.

So far today:

B - power crunch bar

L - cheese sandwich (whole spelt bread / mustard / cheddar)

D - tba... meeting tonight

S - fiber 1 90 calorie brownie

Have a great night!

Topic: RE: Whatcha eating today? Tuesday.

Note to self:  Refined Carbohydrates are not your friend.

I've been hitting the pretzels & candy too much lately.... so I'm going cold turkey.  So far today:

B:  Power crunch bar

L:  tuna casserole (dreamfield's pasta w/ extra tuna)

More coffee than usual as I'm trying to control the carb cravings.....

Topic: RE: What's on your plate today? (Friday)

I've been extra hungry today too, so not a great day.

B:  power crunch bar

L:  split pea soup

Snacks.... pretzels & a snack size snickers bar and an apple.

Sigh.

I'm tired from a long week, stressed with personal stuff -- planning & booking my oldest daughter's wedding (just in time for Christmas shopping), thinking of selling my house & have a relator coming on Monday, the insurance review for my plastics is on Tuesday.... sigh.  I need a nap, a winning powerball ticket, and a maid.

Have a great weekend!

Topic: RE: Does everyone fear regain??

I definitely worry about regain.  I lost from 278 to 132 with diet / exercise / prescription medications.... but over the next 5+ years regained to 234 when I went to my intro session.  I could make excuses, and I did have a couple babies & a major depression due to a child's illness, but in the end, I failed myself.  I don't trust me.

Topic: RE: 2 yrs out from RNY having trouble getting health insurance
Absolutely true.  I easily got insurance when I was obese.  DH missed a payment on my life insurance (don't go there) and they refused to renew.  I had to do a lot of searching to find new coverage, at about 40% more cost than the previous.

Topic: RE: 10 months out and out of control! Help
A couple thoughts.... depending on your height, you could be approaching goal.

Log your intake - see if your calories are actually on the low side - consider your exercise routine and it's impact.

If your calories are actually where they should be (or high), try satisfying your cravings with pickles or salting an apple.  I love salt so I understand completely.  Of course, increasing fluids is a good idea too.

Topic: RE: What are you eating/doing today? Monday!
Good Morning!  I could have lounged around my house today.... but I'm up and at work.  I've been more dis-interested in morning food than usual lately but eating more at night.  I definitely need to work on getting this under control.

B - power crunch bar
L - clam chowder
**no snacks packed for today**
D - sigh.  really can't think about food this early.
S - try to not have anything heavier than SF popsicles or an apple.

Workout for the day -- 4 miles on the treadmill.  Goal for the week:  4 miles, 4 miles, 9.5 miles!

Have a great day!

Topic: RE: Citracal petites or UpCal D?
I think it's really a matter of personal preference.  Watch the "serving size" on the container & just make sure you take the recommended amount total.  I made this mistake early on -- you need to take 2 calcium tabs to get the full serving size with most pills.

Personally, I take the full size citrical, so that I can take fewer pills.  But, I don't have issues swallowing them.  If you have issues swallowing pills, consider the upcal d.

Topic: RE: Would you get WLS if you had only 50 lbs to lose???
I'm 5'5".... my consult weight was 234 (bmi 38.9)... day of surgery 219 (bmi 36.4).... currently about 125 depending on the day (bmi 20.8).  My surgeon's goal weight for me was 150.... so, I had the surgery to "only" lose 69lbs.

I have lost and regained huge amounts of weight in the past.  My highest ever was 278 and lowest adult pre-op was 132.  I had the surgery to give myself the best chance to maintain.  And, so far, so good.  My surgery was in March of 2010.

I would do this again in a heartbeat!

Thank you!  I watch what I eat about 90% of the time but exercise faithfully.

I complicated things for myself when I bought a new scale... that puts me consistently higher than my old one.  I have wondered if it's just the scale, the exercise, or me....

Probably a bit of all but my pants still fit.    I know.  I have issues.

All summer long I looked at last year's winter pants.... thinking "damn those are small"  and wondering what I was going to do for clothing.... well, THEY FIT, maybe even a bit better than before.   Yes -- I'm wearing the same pants two years in a row!

I know many of you can relate!  Have a great day!

I was a D cup pre-op, went up to a DD for a while.... now, down to a 32C without too much sagging & dragging.  I think the "girls" were the only part of me that bounced back a bit.

Topic: RE: Two days left!
Just before my surgery, I could have written most of you post.   I didn't lose any weight until I was approved for surgery & the anxiety hit.

I didn't really mourn food though -- I accepted that if I had a craving, that I could have a taste.  I didn't do a "last supper".  I remember my last meal before my liquid diet, it wasn't anything I wouldn't order for dinner now (salmon & steamed veggies).

Just keep busy -- use the nervous energy to do heavy cleaning and things you can't do in the days immediately following surgery.

Good luck!!  See you on the bench....
