Topic: RE: tonsillectomy after RNY ... NEED HELP

You probably will not eat things like cottage cheese as it is a mil product and seems to make secretions thicker. You definitly want to get some sugar free popsicles and icees. You will want cold on you throat. Just take it slow.

Topic: RE: post menopausal bleeding???

It is wise to go to your GYN just to get checked, but I am thinking it is just the severe hormone shifts that come with losing a large amount of weight so quickly. Dont think there is anything to worry about, but it is always best to be checked by your doctro.

Good luck

Topic: RE: poll about food intolerances

I do not tolerate pasta, lots of pain and vomiting. Will never eat that again. I also do not tolerate red meat like steak, it gives me diarrhea.

Topic: RE: Boney Elbows and Numb Hands, Computer Usage

Sounds like symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. It is common in people who type and use their fingers alot. You can google it and see if you think it is it. Make an appointment with your doctor, their are splints and things you can use.

Good luck

Topic: RE: Your Thoughts ...

I love avocados, so no I do not think they will make you gain. They have lots of good things in them. Good on sandwiches, salads and guacamole. Everything in moderation!!!!

Topic: RE: Strictures?

It is caused by an over growth of scar tissue. It is normal for some people to make more scar tissue than others (like myself). I have had 5 dilations before it cured the issue. It is actually more common now than 10 years ago, because the surgeons are making the stoma (new opening between your stomach and bypassed small intestines) smaller. They did studies and believed making the stoma smaller would increase the weight loss, and increase peoples success. This is the reason some people have had regain as there stoma is to large or have been stretched.

Topic: RE: OMG bacon jerky!!!!

I am so excited I found bacon jerky at Wallmart. It is a great easy snack. It has 12g protein in an once and 9g of fat. I hate beef jerky so this is a good substitute for a snack you can take anywhere. I just took it on a long trip to Texas and was glad I did. Had a short layover and arrived to late to get food, so it was easy to reach in my bag and get the bacon jerky!!!!

Topic: RE: Not happy at all with this surgery or surgeon.....rant sorry

Like poet Kelly I was thinking you are going to have to find another doctor. I think looking for a GI specialist that is familiar with wls patients would be helpful in your case. The only advocate for your health is you, so you will have to take charge!

Topic: RE: OT scrubs question again....

The sleeves are really short on scrub tops anyway, I dont think cutting them will make you any cooler. There are scrub capris and skirts maybe that would help. Or you can find people who make custom srubs in a lighter fabric.

Topic: RE: Dizzy and don't know why ?

Not sure where you live , but here in the Carolinas its pollen season and that causes a lot of symptoms. Maybe it is just allergies??? We tend to think all our symptoms are related to our WLS, and sometimes it is not. Just a suggestion

Topic: RE: Meds for Cramps???

If you still can not get any relief from heat and tylenol, you might want to get a muscle relaxer from your PCP.

Topic: RE: passing out...HELP!

Your doctor obviously does not know much about gastric bypass, as you do not have to have been a diabetic to have reactive hypoglycemia. You should check your blood sugar when you start to have those symptoms. Passing out daily is not normal.

Topic: RE: Rant- So Mad!

I would definitely tell your surgeon about his responses. He should be able to refer patients to a cardiologist that believe in WLS as a treatment for obesity.

Do you still have your gallbladder? That's what it sounds like. maybe an ulcer. need ultrasound and maybe and EGD

Topic: RE: 2 years post bypass

148 seems a bit small for 5'10", and still losing. What does a day of eating look like for you? I am three years out but I still eat every 4 hours small meals or snacks.

Topic: RE: Dizzy spells

If it happens most when you change positions, it sounds like a drop in your blood pressure. Are you on any BP meds? If you dont have any restrictions for salt intake i would increase it and drink more fluids.

Topic: RE: Ever have an ulcer cauterized?

Well anything is possible but it could be as simple as he started bleeding again and his blood levels were critically low so he had to rush back to ICU before he became even more unstable. It is hard to say as this surgery is complicated and can cause a lot of complications. I pray it is something simple and easily fixable.

Topic: RE: Ever have an ulcer cauterized?

It is very important to stop the bleeding as soon as possible, so cauterizing is the best way. The dark blood in the stool indicates the bleeding is from the stomach high up not in the colon, does not mean it is not actively bleeding. Sounds like a normal course considering he had a bleeding ulcer. You treat non bleeding ulcers with meds not cautery, now that they stopped the bleeding I am sure he will be discharged on those medicines.

Topic: RE: what's causing fatigue?

Not to ruin your day, but you will feel tired for a couple of months. This WLS takes a lot out of your body. The extreme weightloss and change in eating habits takes your body a good 3 months to catch up. In my experience. I do not think your B12 would be low yet, unless it was low pre-op.. I would just be patient and know your body is going through changes daily and it takes it toll. Be sure you drink plenty of fluids and rest when you can. You will feel strong soon.

Topic: RE: NIPHS~ Non-Insulinoma Pancreatogenous Hypoglycemia Syndrome AFTER RNY

I was wondering the same thing, about what is different with your diagnosis and reactive hypoglycemia. You sound like you have the same issue as myself. If I eat to many carbs with not enough protein my blood sugar drops to 50 and below if I dont treat it. It also happens only on occasion, if I do not eat properly.

Topic: RE: Quinoa? What is it? How do you cook with it?

I like quinoa and so does my teenager. I use it in place of rice if I feel like a starch. I use a tbs of minced garlic and a tbs of sesame oil along with the recommended liquid. ( I use chiken broth instead of water) it taste a lot better. Quinoa has no taste itself so it takes on the flavor of what you cook it with.

Topic: RE: Pickles and Corn?

I was OK to eat a pickle or two, but for corn I had to wait 3 months. It is harder on your intestines. I actually drank a little pickle juice the 3rd week, as I was sick of sweet tasting.

Topic: RE: OT - Going on my very first cruise in Feb

Well since my hubby is a cruise addict, we have been on 14 with the 15th planned for June. Ironically we have been on the fantasy 3 times. It was our very first cruise and very first family cruise. We actually really like the fantasy. It is one of the smallest in carnivalls fleet and one of their older ships, although I believe it was remodeled. It is a good first ship to go on. They have come a long way with their food and are actually as good as Royal Caribbean at this point. There are plenty of good choices for WLS patients and lots to do and see.

Have a blast!!!!!! I always pack protein bars and powder in case needed.
