Hello,

I will be having a revision surgery on 9/23 to remove my band that I've had since 2006 and revise to RNY. For those of you that have been through this, what differences have you noticed? I'm curious about the differences or similarities in.feeling that you get when you are full, or when you get stuck?  Also, the consistency of tightness with the band has always been an issue with me, one day I'll be very tight and restricted and the next it can be like I don't have a band. Is that feeling of fullness more consistent? Any differences or similarities you've had I'd love to hear about. Thanks!

Sounds like we are in the same place.  I loved my band when I first got it.  Loved being full and not thinking about food.  Loved seeing my weight go down and clothes fit better.

8 years later...I'm not recovering from having the band out and looking forward to RNY.  I hear that Lapband failure is common but part of me still feels like I am to blame in some way.  My eating habits went in the toilet, after two years of chasing the right fill level, I finally admitted defeat and took this next path.

I just hope I don't die trying to get healthy.

Hi,

I'm 10 months out from revision surgery from lap band in 2007 to RNY. I am so surprised at how good I feel! I loved my band and was upset that it had to be removed due to a slip. I kept 80 pounds off over eight years and thought I felt good. Now I know what feeling good while eating is like. There is no getting stuck and no throwing up. I'm really not kidding!! No reflux either. And I can eat anything. I think I made myself believe I didn't like steak, but the band never liked it. I love steak and eat it much more frequently. I also get to enjoy shrimp and salad and vegetables! I stay away from high fat and high sugar foods and honestly look and feel so healthy. I've lost 80 pounds since revision surgery at the end of October last year and am still losing.

i wish you the best of luck on your revision surgery and much enjoyment with your new way of eating. You're going to be so happy!

Sorry I didn't answer your question about fullness. I think my fullness with the band was food near my throat. The feeling now is a full stomach (much lower in the body vs the band) and it doesn't take a lot of food to get there. And another benefit is the fullness lasts a long time. If you get busy you could honestly forget to eat. I sometimes have to look ate time to realize I should eat. It's really amazing!

If you have any other questions let me know.

I am newly revised from band to bypass, and agree with everything Hilarious wrote.  It will be a much healthier (and more predictable) lifestyle.
