Hi y'all. Well, I started going to the gym today and after doing what felt like a ZILLION freakin' miles on the treadmill, I realized that I am going to have to find a different kind of tennis shoes to wear. Unfortunately, being obese for so long left me with a "sensitive" back and I was feeling every pounding second on that treadmill. So do y'all have any suggestions as to what kind of shoe I should get that will help to cushion some of that impact? I was wear New Balance. I have a pair of Reeboks that I hate and so I only mow the yard in them. I also don't REALLY want to spend $160 on a pair of workout shoes. Suggestions? Thanks! Cheryl

Hey Mizz Cheryl..how are you? Well my first thought was New Balance because when I did nursing rotations they worked wonders. However, Nike has a new shoe out, called the Nike ID, I think right now they are only available online, but it is specially made for work outs. It is worn without socks and the inner padding is made to meld to your soles to help with shock absorption. They have several styles and colors (including my signature color of PINK) and even can be personalized. They are $99. You may have seen them on Oprah's list of favorite things. Last I checked they were back ordering them but now with holidays over it may be better. Anyhow, I have a pair of Nike -T-shirt- shoes which are designed to allow your feet to breath and they stretch and I love them for working out and they can go in the wash too. The Nike Shox are nice too and you can get them at Academy for about $79+ bucks. Still not cheap but worth it if you plan to stick with the working out. Hugs, Samara

I was going to say new balance too, but i have found that addidis works well too. My addidis now have what i call pressure points. they have like five balls on the sole that lead up to the toe and like them the best. Good Luck on finding a good pair of shoes. I starting roller blading now 3 miles because i was bored of going to the gym. I am having a blast but i have a bad ankle so i have to wear ankle support with that. Marti

I love my new New Balance. I've found that if there's a New Balance store, that the sales people there are great at fitting you and finding a shoe for whatever your specific needs may be. I went there the second Saturday after my surgery and they spent about a 1/2 hour with me getting the right fit and showing me how to lace them to accommodate my narrow heels, etc. I was out the door for $102 including tax. Any running or fitness store should be able to provide the same services. Best, Jennifer

Cheryl, I got a pair of SAS shoes....they feel as good to me as my custom made othopedic shoes...the are about $110...but worth every penny.... They look like old man...or woman shoes...but my feet feel great now....I'm walking 3 miles a day...continuous.... (Just to let you know...when I went to the Foot doctor...and he looked at the X-ray....he said..."you have put some wear and tear on your feet"...this was before surgery...) You have to get them at a SAS store....(san Antonio Shoe)...I think they are all hand made...check them out Russ

Hi Cheryl Try a good pair of running shoes that have the coils in the heal of the shoe. They really help absorb the shock to your joints and back. (Nike and New Balance) Acadamy usually has some good sales.

Cheryl, I know this is a little late for the response but I went the other day to Lady Footlocker I bought a tennis shoe called Ryka. It is great for running and aerobics. Very lightweight and feels wonderful on my feet. Wore them last week and this week to aerobics feels comfy!!!With tax and all ran about $75.00. You can probably find them in any athletic shoe store. Congrats on joining the gym! You wont regret it!!! You will feel so much better! Exercise will burn them calories and keep your metabolism up! Hugs, Grace

Hi Cheryl, I have a suggestion for you that might sound weird. The Curves shoe that you can buy from any AVON representative or on their website is awesome. I have been wearing them for almost three weeks. It provides the best support I have ever had. I too have a sensitive back. I know exactly how it feels to have my back throb with every step. It might be worth a try plus they won't cost you a bundle. I don't work for Avon so I am not getting a kickback for recommending the CURVES shoe. I just tried it on a lark since I have gone back to Curves with a vengence recently. I worked out early this morning and still have my shoes on since they feel so good and I had lots of errands to run today. Hope this helps, Ann

Hey Sunshine, My hubby's foot doc suggested her wear NB as well, I know your problem is with your back tho, and he even has shoe insoles to help his feet out, but have you asked the gym what shoe they would recommend? Best of luck to you! Im still walking & riding the schwinn bike! Traci P.
