I am starting on my journey and I have a few questions for anyone who will respond.. 1. What type of surgery did you have? 2. When did you have it? 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change? 5. Do you have any regrets? Thanks for your help and inspiration

Hi Scott, Good luck on your journey! 1. What type of surgery did you have? RNY 2. When did you have it? 03/22/2006 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? Absolutely!!! 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change? I'd have made sure I had more $$ put away for clothes. I have to change sizes often. 5. Do you have any regrets? None! If they told me I had to do it all over again, I'd jump on the operating table with a big smile. Best choice I ever made for myself.

Scott, I had my surgery June 12th (12 days ago) I had RNY (open) I am very happy that I did it YES, YES, YES I would do again in a heart beat NO REGRETS I have lost 24 lbs so far and already feel so much better!! I had a few days of wanting to eat what my family was eating just because it was there. ( okay , just because I am who I am I had a bite and spit in trash) I made sure I walked 3hrs after surgery ( hurt like hell, but each time got a little better) and am walking now as much as I can. ( so hot here, I walk in morning before 11am and evening after 6pm) I am feeling stronger everyday. I have to remind myself not to do to much because I know it takes 6 weeks for the stomache to heal from the inside out. Just remember vits, water, and protein, for the rest of your life. Very doable I was on 10 prescription meds everyday . Right now I am down to 4 (yeah!!!) and hope to only be on vits soon. This board is soooo helpful and always here!! Do your research, find a good surgeon, and go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much luck to you ................(HUGS)...........Karen

1. What type of surgery did you have? vbg & rny 2. When did you have it? 8/3/98 & 8/4/04 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? with the rny yes.... very happy with the results 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change? I would never have had the vbg or I would not have waited so long to have a revision... the revision is the best thing I have ever done... 5. Do you have any regrets? waiting so long... and not researching the first surgery ... there are so many surgies you can choose from and knowing how I am love the sweets I should never have had the vbg.... my sister in law had it done several months before I did and I went to my dr. and they did all the paperwork and I was approved in 2 weeks and back in 98 there wasnt much to research.... Good luck and really research and be ready for the ride of your life... Debra

1. What type of surgery did you have? I choose gastric bypass (Laproscopic RNY) because I am a sugar junkie. I WANTED the extra restriction that "dumping" offers. Ironicall, I don't dump, typically. Even though I tolerate sugar pretty well, I can only do so much, so it is working for me. 2. When did you have it? 8-19-2004 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? i am VERY happy with my RNY. I have lost 125 pounds (100% of the weight I wanted to lose). I now have a very normal BMI of 24.9 instead of one of 46.9. I have maintained my weightloss within 5 pounds easily for 9 months. 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change? The ONLY thing that I would have changed is I would have done it sooner. 5. Do you have any regrets? No, I have no regrets. XOXOXO, Sharyn

1. What type of surgery did you have? RNY 2. When did you have it? July 28, 2004 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? Yes, Yes, Yes!!! 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change? I would have done it years sooner. I had diabetes (yes, I said "had") for years and now have the damage to my eyesight it caused. That cannot be reversed. I also suffered many years at my weight and couldn't live a "normal" life. Now I can. I missed so much. I am now 53 years old and am trying to make up for the past 30 years of what I missed. 5. Do you have any regrets? Absolutely none. Good luck in your journey. Kathy 170 pounds gone!

Scott, This is a big choice...I like the way you are doing your research...good thinking. 1. RNY-Proximal 2. April 10th 2006 3. Absolutely! Never in my life did I ever think I could this much weight this quickly....and the best thing is the lifestyle change. 4. If I had to repeat this surgery once a month to get to goal...I would do it....it was that significant of a change. 5. The only regret I have is waiting so long....and convincing myself that I should try "diet and exercise" one more time...which ended up with a 30 pound wt gain. Good Luck Scott! Cyndi

Hi, Scott! Welcome to the TMB, and good luck on your journey! 1. RNY (lap) because I knew I needed the dumping effect! I used to eat sweets after every meal! 2. Feb 23, 2005 - 16 months ago. 3. Very, very happy! I DO dump, and that extra scare helps me! I lost 155 pounds, went from a size 24 (tight) to mostly 7/8's now. 4. The only thing I would change is that I would have had the surgery sooner! I spent 2 years researching and trying to decide. That is 2 years I could have had LIVING life more fully! 5. My regret is the same as #4! Just wish I had done it sooner. Wishing you the best! Susan

Scott; 1. What type of surgery did you have? Laproscopic RNY 2. When did you have it? 11/15/2005 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had? Thrilled. My experience has been wonderful so far. 5. Do you have any regrets? Not one. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 166 / 137

I wish you all the best. I will give you my honest answers. 1. What type of surgery did you have?..RNY 2. When did you have it?...March 7,2003 3. Are you happy with the type of procedure you had?....not really but it has more to do with the high turnover at BTC/Barix, I have not had a constant medical/surgical support. My follow up has been inconsistently and lacking. 4. If you could do it all over today knowing everything that you know now what would you change?..I would exercise like a maniac no matter what to maximize the weight loss. 5. Do you have any regrets? ....I regret falling off the exercise wagon when I got so discouraged when I did not make my goal at 2 years old. Lack of transportation and a case of depression kept me from keeping up my exercise plan. I deeply regret pulling away from support because I was ashamed and disappointed. Ann 423/300/?

Hi Scott, Good luck on your new journey in life - 1. Type of surgery - RNY with Dr Todd McCarty in Dallas 2. When - 6-1-06 I'm 25 days out and have lost about 35 lbs. Feeling Great! 3. I'm very Happy - I can already do things I couldn't do before 6-1-06, like play on the floor with the grandbaby, touch my toes and walk without losing my breath. 4. I'm still a "Newbie" or "Rookie" , so at this point I wouldn't change a thing. 5. Regrets - NO, Notta, None, it's the most awesome thing I've done for myslf and my family. I'm so happy, and when Mama's happy everyone is happy. Cozette
