Morning. I think today I can actually just get out what I am feeling...yesterday, was not that day.... First of all, I understand that there are those of us that LOVE TO COOK and LOVE TO SHARE RECIPES and such with others, I AM ONE OF THEM I SAY WITH A SMILE...and some that DONT LIKE THAT>>>..I LOVE TO COOK....BACK AT 340 POUNDS, I LOVED TO COOK AND EAT...NOW, STRANGELY ENOUGH, I CAN STILL COOK...YES EVEN THE HEAVY STUFF BUT IT IS THEN UP TO ME IF I CHOOSE TO INDULGE OR NOT....NO ONE ELSE. DO I INDULGE ?? SURE, ON OCCASSION AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT ALL OF US DO....HOWEVER...THAT IS JUST ONE OF LIFE'S LITTEL CHOICES AND WELL, WE HAD SURGERY ON OUR TUMMY'S NOT OUR BRAINS !! RIGHT ?? Anyways, I wanted to make sure to post that when I put a recipe on here, if you dont want to look, please DONT LOOK...that makes me NO DIFFERENCE....sometimes they are wls friendsly and sometimes not....and sometimes adaptable....and in most cases they are....I still have a family to cook for and I take pleasure in cooking and feeding others...it is weird I know but almost like that is how I feed my addiction....by Feeding OTHERS, NOT MYSELF !!!! I cook for elderly in the neighborhood, I cook for friends, co workers, my daughters 1st grade classes even...I just LOVE TO COOK. I dont want or mean to offend anyone when I post recipes but it is fun and well, again if you dont enjoy cooking or even looking, then PLEASE DONT LOOK OR COOK, THAT IS YOU !!  Ok, I just had to add my 2 cents in , which I rarely do when things kinda upset me....but this time, I just wanted to say, welcome to THE TEXAS BOARD, WHERE THERE IS ALWAYS PLENTLY OF TALK, CONTROVERSY AND FUN....BUT IT IS ALL REAL AND ALL TEXAN !!!! Thank you for those that love to see my recipes posted ( and others that post recipes) and keep them coming...

Keep those recipes coming.  As I can only eat a couple bites, I often make them for my family and have just a taste myself.

Hi Jen!! First of all, thanks for all the recipes you post!  I love them.  Love reading them and love trying the ones I think my family will enjoy.  If they are WLS friendly (or adaptable) I eat a portion too.  If they aren't, I taste it just to see how wonderful it is and go fix something WLS friendly.  After all, it's MY choice on what to cook and put into my body - always has been, always will be.  Now I just have a tool to use (my surgery) and thanks to my doc and nut, some valuable information inside my head to keep me going in the right direction.   Second, I am like you.  I LOVE to cook.  I love trying new recipes and I love reading recipes.  Heck, I go buy recipe books to read for fun!!!  LOL  Dh and family love it because we are always trying something new.  What's crazy is, all that has happened since I had surgery.  Before surgery, I was stuck in a rut of the same 10-15 meals.  Now we are eating a wide variety of foods, lots more veggies and different styles of cuisine.  I can't wait to try the Cuban burgers!!!  Never have cooked Cuban food before, so this will be tons of fun!   So, thanks for sharing your love of food and fun with us.  I think the dinner table is where families stay connected.  And, if you don't have GOOD food on that table (not only healthy, but tasty as well) then no one is going to enjoy being there and very little real connecting is going to happen.  Just MHO.   And, if anyone else out there has a family like mine, I NEED a few recipes that aren't always WLS friendly.  My hubby and kids all have very high metabolisms (something I do not have) and they need more carbs, calories, fats, etc.  When I cook only WLS type foods, they starve!  Like I said, when I cook those foods, I just taste to make sure they are #1 good and #2 don't need any more seasonings, etc.   Love ya bunches girl!!!

Jen, Love the recipes!!!  I too, love to cook.  I feed my addiction by cooking for others too... I make a dessert for a group we attend every Friday, and some of the folks want to know why I cook, but don't eat... Just something that I do....  Thanks for all the recipes.. I've tried just about everything you've posted and my family and friends thank you too.....

Lexie, I am like you.  I love cooking for others and I don't usually want to eat if after I cook it.  So those recipes are grand. Besides, I copy off ALL the recipes and have my coworkers asking about getting copies for themselves.  In fact, we are deciding who is making the meatloaf and who is making the cheeseburger soup for the next potluck!

Girl, do NOT stop the recipes, I not only have collected many of them and tried some but I am a cookbook/recipe junkie and I'm always looking at them and buying them.  Last year I gathering some of my favorite recipes (both WLS friendly and non-friendly) and made cookbooks for my sisters and neighbors, everyone was estastic with them. I PM'd you but will say it here too:  WE CAN COOK WHATEVER WE WANT, WHEN WE WANT.  We can also cook for others because we enjoy cooking it's a great hobby to have......ask my MIL she is really enjoying me being back in Louisiana.....in fact all the baking I've been doing because I like it so such is going to her house, she calls to see what she gets to taste next, roflmao.  Just the joy of knowing someone is enjoying it is enough....and yes I'll take a bite or two if I want one, the majority of time that's it for me most of it is way to sweet. I love you girl, enjoy the heck out of you and Mel's recipes and hope you continue for those of us that "LOVE COOKING".

Honey I LOVE your recipies!! I cook for everyone!  My nutritionist told me to make sure that I eat my protein first but eat a balanced diet. I eat what I need too but I also taste my famlies food that I cook and it doesn't kill me. Food isn't our enemy we are our own and it is up to us to make the right choices about what and how much we eat. So post away, I need a good desert to take to church wednesday night for our Thanksgiving meal:) HUGS!!!

Hey Jen,  I just have to "weigh in" on this one.  LOL I never cooked for my DH before my weight loss surgery and I do mean never.  I would cook Thanksgiving or Christmas Dinner when the kids came home and I've always loved to bake because I love to eat baked goods.  Since my surgery, I have learned to love cooking and I particularly enjoy the recipes you post.  I don't make all of them, but I use some of them and make my own changes.  I like them because they are food that real people eat, not something a chef made up in a test kitchen.   If I hadn't learned to love cooking, I would be in bad shape since DH has not been able to cook since the middle of August.  I'm thinking that pizza, taco bell and fried chicken would be pretty old by now.   Keep those recipes coming.  I appreciate all of them. Vicki

JHC!!!  WTF is wrong with some people???  It is not like you are posting and saying "OK, Stepford WLSers, EAT THIS..NOW!!!"  People need to have personal accountablity for what they shovel down their gullet.  Just bc a recipe is posted does NOT mean that you A.) have to make it, B.) make it, and not eat it,  or C.) make it and engorge yourself to the point of puking or dying a long, slow death via dumping.  Take it for what it is...a freaking recipe.  Take it or leave it.   You dont like it, keep on reading other posts.  Don't think it is for you?  Keep reading other posts.  Don't think that you have the self-discipline to have it in your home without going ape****  Keep on reading other posts. Jen's recipes's did not cause us to gain our weight.  Jen's recipe's did not help in weight loss or maintanence of our weight.  Jen's recipes will not make us all gain weight.  That being said, if you have any issues with a recipe, MODIFY it to suit your needs.  Isn't this what WLS is about?  GETTING NORMAL and learning to ADJUST to the world around us?  FLing out the fat, slice the sugars,  cut the carbs..embrace it and make it something that YOU would want to put into your mouth.  All of this crapola reminds me of ex-smokers who, once they quit, insist that everyone around them adapt to their environment.  We need food to exist, and we have the choice about how to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat.   Ummmm...didn't a good number of us have to visit a dietician before and sometimes after surgery, along with our surgeons advice on healthy eating?  Soooooo, why not take that info and USE IT to make good choices and modify not-so-good or borderline ones?  Geez...step up, quit *****ing, and live your own life instead of crapping all over someone elses... Just my lil low-carb, low-fat, low-sugar two cents worth...
