Opinion on personal trainer for WLS patients

Hi there,

I am seriously considering getting certified as a personal trainer within the next year here in Fort Worth.  I am 8 years out from my RNY surgery and have maintained 150lb weight loss.

My goal would be to work with other WLS patients offering personal training and boot camps that enhance their weight loss keeing in mind their lower calorie intake and limitations early on.

As WLS patients do you think you would relate better to someone who has walked in your shoes?  Looking for feedback :)
Yes...I personally think that if I were going to work out with a personal trainer I would like one who knew where I was coming from as far as the excess skin issues.    I think you would be a amazing personal trainer.

Thanks Vivian, I really appreciate your feedback!!
YES   YES YES YES YES      ID COME EVEN IF YOUR NOT CERTIFIED...... !!

But I'd have to do it on the weekends if at all possible....:(

Surgery fixed our stomach and has given me a tool to use to help lose weight, but the surgery didn't fix the mindset of habits.

Thanks Phyllis, LOVE your enthusiasm and really appreciate the post!

AB-SO-LUTE-LY !! I think that would be a great marketing feature..plus a truly great "gift to humanity", to share your wisdom, as you continue to keep yourself healthy, and get yourself a business built up, etc..sounds like a WIN/WIN for ALL to me !!

I've been searching lately for a program that focuses on "woman of age"...for lack of a kinder phrase..lol...meaning 50-ish...who just can't seem to keep up with younger/fitter Zumba-ers, but WANT to exercise, and not feel like a back row walrus...

Ok..where do you live, and how many guinea pigs do you need ?????

Hi Gina,

I am in Fort Worth but it will take some time before I am certified.  That is a must in my book.

I love your idea of a "women of age" program, genius!  I am sure I am not far behind you wanting something similiar for myself :)

Thanks Gina!

I took the liberty of looking at your pictures. I am in awe!!! I did the Dallas White Rock Half-Marathon, the past 2 yrs, and always have thought about doing a Warrior run, but have let myself get too out of shape now, to do a Warrior CRAWL..much less a RUN !!!!

You look FABULOUS--keep up the GREAT habits, and PLEASE, PLEASE keep us updated !!!!

Dittos to Nurse Gina's comment on the marketing potential.  Ideal niche to cater to.  You''d understand them from pre op to plastic surgery. Set some business cards out at bariatric offices and a website - you'd be off and running, pardon the pun even though it fits!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Good for you!! I agree with the others. I also plan to get certified to be a personal trainer. I plan to work with anyone, but especially hope to help women over 40 and WLS people get healthier. I don't think you will get enough business if you strictly focus on a particular group, unless you were working at a bariatric center.
