Topic: RE: Some advice
First let me say Kudos to you for doing your homework .
As for my decision , I knew that the Lap Band was not for me . I knew in my heart that I would find a way to out eat it ... and with out the consequences of the LB .. I knew in my heart that the RNY was the one for me .
I am 5 years post op , with NO complications from my surgery . While I do have Addisons Disease , this is not due to my surgery . I had tumors on my adrenal glands .

There are many pros and cons on all surgeries .
And yes , talk to your surgeon .. talk to others here and on other message boards .
Try going to the RNY board here .. I am sure you can get some great feed back .

If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me here .

Take care ,

Cleo,
We have on that just opened in Manassas. When I go by there in the afternoons , they look really packed . Most gyms are busy that time of day .
The monthly fee is awesome .. a one time 29$ then 10 $ a month .
If I where you , I would see if they will allow you a free visit to check it out . Most Fitness centers allow this .

If you do try it out , please let me know what you think ,
I am still working on my PT certification and would love to know how they work ,

Take care ,
Nat

Hi Elizabeth! Welcome back!!!

I can so relate to things you are going through. I am 17 months out, this month and when I was 14 months out, I was rushed to the hospital thinking it was my heart to find out that I was bleeding to death from a bleeding ulcer at the anastamosis. Well after cauterization and epinephrine, it is healing but I am dealing now with a kink or blockage in the intestines, not able to eat for the last 8 months or so and next Thursday am having surgery to find the kink and to insert a feeding tube.

I understand your frustration and pain all the while never regretting what you did. I am so glad you now have coverage so that you are able to get things taken care of and get healed. If you need to vent or talk, just give me a message. Will pray your surgeons office gets you in there quickly! Hugs to you!

Elizabeth,
I do remember you . Welcome back .
I am very sorry you have gone through what you have post op . It is good that you posted this . While complications do happen , they do not happen to everyone, however it is very insightful to see and know that it can happen .

It is a good thing that now you have insurance that will cover this . Sort of a silver lining of sorts .

It is nice to see also that your co-mobilities like your diabetes is gone .

Please keep us posted on the outcome of your surgery and follow up .
I will keep you in prayer with the hope that all of your medical issues will be corrected and you gain a life that is pain free .

Take care ,

Natalie

Topic: Quote of the Day .. Cir****tances...
Motivational Quote - People are always blaming their cir****tances for what they are. I don’t believe in cir****tances. The people *****ally make it in this world are the ones who get up and look for the cir****tances they want and if they can’t find them, they make them.
SparkPeople Translation

Is there something bad that has happened to your life? Is there a situation you wish you weren’t in? Change it. Look for the positives and realize that life presents many lessons to learn. Think about what you can do yourself to turn around some difficult cir****tances. If you wish you had a better relationship with somebody significant in your life, work to get just that. If you know that you have unhealthy eating habits, and have just been brushing them aside because you are “too busy,” make an effort to bring about change. Go for what you really want out of life. Maintain a positive outlook. Magic can happen.

Topic: I've been away for a long time and now have complications
Hi, Virginia Folks:

Some of you may remember me.  I couldn't sign in as my old email address wouldn't work, but I have been around since 2005.  I had my RNY on August 30, 2005, and have lost 160 pounds since then.  Right after surgery, I had a lot of complications related to a gastro-gastric fistula and recurring gastric ulcers.  I had six endoscopies, dilation and medication, all without healing the issues.

After a year, I lost my insurance (COBRA ran out), and my new employer's insurance didn't cover anything related to WLS, including complications, so for three years I just hurt. For four years I have been hurting every day.

My company was purchased in August, and now I have insurance that will cover WLS.  So, I went to the doctor last week and today I had another endoscopy.  It showed TWO gastro-gastric fistulas and four gastric ulcers, one of them bleeding.

I am so discouraged.  Another operation is inevitable.  The doctor's office is supposed to call tomorrow.  I'm tired and sore from the endoscopy today, and an IV blew in my hand,  so it hurts and is swollen.

Sorry to be so down - I don't want to discourage anyone's WLS journey.  I did have results that mattered - weight loss, diabetes gone, high cholesterol is now 134, etc.  I would do it again, but this is so hard.

Peace,
elizabeth in Waynesboro

T-
You know that I can relate.  When I went in for my exploratory surgery, Dr. Mo found a perforated ulcer that was previously unseen on my EGD.  So, I don't think it's a bad idea to have that surgery on Oct. 1.
I know how you're feeling and it is so easy to fall into the when is it going to end mentality...it can be all consuming.  You are being proactive and working with your medical team and keeping check of your health and THAT is the number one most important thing you can do!
I'm totally with you on the would I still do it train...IN A HEARTBEAT!!!  I weighed 350 pounds and I could not keep up with anything.  I"m still healthier NOW in a "sick" state than I was "well" at 350 pounds.
Keep up your fantastic work and hang in there...we're all praying for you and rooting for you!

I am sorry to hear that you mother is ill. We will continue to pray for her and for you. Please try to eat so you can be there for her. We are here for you and our prayers are going out to you. I pray that God's will be done and that you will have strength during this time of need. I pray that God will mend her and wrap his arms around you and your family.

God Bless you.

Topic: RE: Planet Fitness
I have 3 friends that go to a Planet fitness. They all love it. However, I know that it does get busy in the evenings but they haven't complained about any lines or anything. I think most gyms have alot of people in the evenings. Plus Planet Fitness has different hours, the one here is open almost 24 hours a day except weekends.

It sounds like things are starting to take a positive turn, and though it may involve surgery, it will be taken care of.  Stay strong and take care of yourself through all of this.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.
