Avocado = horrible stomach pain?

vacationlover

Last week, I had a tablespoon of guacamole along with some ham.  I then had horrible stomach pain about 30 minutes later.  The pain got better after 3-4 hours.  I thought it was the ham.

Today, I had some pieces of crab, with a slice of avocado.  Once again, I am having horrible stomach pains about 30 minutes after eating.

Has anyone else had this reaction to avocados?

We have a lady around here who has horrible pain and dumping like symptoms with fats.  Maybe just hang tight and try avos out a little later?

Boo.  Sorry cuz avos are dewish!  Maybe later your tum wont be so fussy about them.

The fats could be it... I wonder if it's the combination of no gallbladder + tiny "new" stomach?  I for sure won't be trying them again for a while!!  I haven't had this type of pain from food since the olden days (3+ years ago) when I had a gallbladder.

This is kinda like dumping, now that I think of it.  Horrible stomach pain, sweats, trouble thinking, just want to lay down and die....  Thank goodness it should pass in another few hours...

If you are sure it is the avocado, then it's the fat in it that is causing the problem.  This could go away with time, but for now, you might want to steer clear of too much fat.

I'm pretty sure the only thing in common with last week was the avocado...  I had an AWESOME, simple salad today that only had avocado, crab meat, mango, and lettuce.  The only overlap with last week is the avocado and lettuce...

Could it be your bowels? Maybe the avocado is pushing things out, so its causing pain in your stomach? I'm not sure, but I am interested to find out if others have experienced this. I love avocado and can't wait to introduce them back into my own diet.

Hmmm, I don't know...  What I do know is that the pain is right where I think my stomach is.  Nothing else has caused me this type of pain...

I have avocados 3-4 times a week and have not had any problems with them.

If you think the avocado is not agreeing with you stop eating it and try it again in a month or two. Post-op I had similar problems with eggs. It wasn't till I was 6 months post-op that I could tolerate eggs. Now I have eggs regularly, they're a good source of protein.

Good luck,
George

Do you still have your gallbladder? If pain lasts for four hours it could be gallstones.

Early out, I had similar symptoms when I ate avocado. I waited a few months and tried them again. No problem. I eat avocado several times a week, so I think the earlier experience was too much fat for my tiny sleeve at the time. Try again, in a month or two, and just a small amount, so you can see how you react to it.
