Help. Is it normal?

Ok so I had surgery on wed eve and just came home today. Everything went great but hav a question abou****er/fluids. My surgeon wants me to take in st least 64oz of water and try to start workin in protein shakes also. My question is what's normal water intake this soon outta surgery cuz I'm tryin for 64 but haven't made it yet. Now il know water is primary importence right now but my surgeon made it sound like by the end p of w/end it would be reasonable that I start taking upward to 90 or 100 oz a day.
Now I'm trying to go with the flow of my body here but the past two nights that I've been aloud to drink I couldn't hit my mark. Like today I started out good but hav been fallin in n out of sleep at hospital cuz as I'm sure you all know by now if you need a rest don't go to hospital. Anyway, needles to say today it looks like I took in about 45or50oz and this was pushing it because I would take at least 1 sip every 15 min and over the day is get my mark.
Now is this normal? Granted this is only my second full v day out of surgery but like I said my surgeon was pressing this and saying that by tomorrow it would be journal to be in nineties and hundreds by beg of week. They didn't comeout n say to force myself but it's that the case? Cuz I got that full/stiff feeling in my chest dand abdomen and I'm assuming when I get this it means I'm fil

I think 90 or 100 oz is a bit much. I am 14 days post-op and my clinic asks that we get in 64oz of fluids and this includes the protein shakes which come first and then work on adding in other fluids.

im 2 months out and remember just getting home postop. its all you can do to eat your broth or jello.youre supposed to constantly be sipping. every 2 minutes take a sip of water. i dont think you need to be hell bent on getting to that 64 oz right away. itll take time to be able to get in your water and protein. your tummy is swollen right now which means its gonna tolerate very little. as long as your sipping throughout the day you should be fine. my dr said always pay attention to the color of your urine. as long as its clear (and not yellow) then youre hydrated. for the first 2 weeks i could only finish about a bottle and a half of water a day. just do your best and stay in tune with what your body is telling you. youll know when youre thirsty. your stomach may growl a little to let you know. good luck!

I think 64 oz a day is a goal, but you probably won't reach it for a while.  Still, try, and ocntinue to push fluids during all waking hours because you don't want to get dehydrated.  When you get to where you're able to stay awake, and drink an ounce (about the size of one of those little medicine cups) every 15 minutes, you'd get your 64 oz in 16 hours.  Think of it as your only job for now.  An ounce every 15 minutes will soon become every 10 minutes, then 5 minutes, and so forth.

Congratulations on your surgery!

I'm 3 wks out and do good to get over 64oz. Sometimes I get in the 70-80's. I think once I got to 90's but that was because I was singing that day and that uses up alot of fluid in your body, more so than talking.

Anyways, try drinking 1/2 oz every 5 min. Shoot for 64oz. The further your out, the easier it gets to drink.

Have a blessed one!

64 oz is what I have gone with since surgery.

my doctor said 48oz to start with minimum. 64 oz is probably too much first month or so
the first few days mine said 35-45 is more likely what i would be getting in. higher is better and like a few people mentioned 64 ounces is a good goal to work towards and your only job is to drink, drink, drink.

64 ounces plus protein shakes seems excessive, and hitting 90-100 would have been impossible for me due to swelling, unless all i did was drink 24 hours straight and never slept.

we all have different amounts of swelling, some people got in 90 the first week but for many that isnt realistic. try and set an alarm and drink every few minutes like you are doing and aim to get as much as you can.
