i am an Addtict to this site.... i wanna understand one thing.....
i see people  can easily follow an healthy diet after Sleev .. as in first protein , than less of carb etc... is that people dont crave ?
all i wanna know is if we  know how to follow an healthy diet .. cant we still follow the same without having an surgery?
if yes thn why surgery

if not how can surgery help you to stick on to your health diet

have also people posting that commitment is on top priority after surgery, i guess  everyone  knows commitment is very important which is very difficult to keep up  now ( without surgery) how is that aspect changing after surgery ? how can one keep up their commitment to follow particular diet? is it easy? after surgery

:)
anyways have my surgery scheduled on 13th guys :) love you all

The temptations are still there after surgery.  There are plenty of people who either stop losing or gain weight back because they did not fix their mental issues.

The sleeve just prevents you from eating as much as you used to - it will not make you make better choices.  That is up to you.

The combination of the reduced capacity and reduction in Ghrelin is the difference. While in the losing phase, the diet becomes your new normal way of life. Once the weight starts coming off, you realize that you CAN do this and it inspires you to keep going to get to your goals!

I find that as long as I still measure my portions, and eat the protein first, I'm good. If I guess at portion size, I sometimes go over what I should have. I've been at goal since June. I don't feel like I am "dieting" anymore - this is just my new normal way of life, but I do stop and think (most of the time) before I pick the bad stuff. I eat more veggies than I ever did and way less junk than I ever did. I will continue to track my intake. It's easier to maintain if I make small adjustments now and then to calorie/carb intake. I do have treats now and then. I don't keep many snack type foods in the house because once I do have them, I crave them. But overall, I find it much easier to maintain than I expected.

:)

I forgot to add that when I'm having cravings or really hungry, I start off by having a cup of tea or other drink.  If I'm still hungry after that, I might have something.  The hunger varies.  Sometimes I go more than half the day without eating, and then need to play catch up with the protein.  It's so hard to imagine what it's like after the surgery.  I think you just have to experience it firsthand to understand.

It has been such a blessing for me.  I am so much healthier than I was when I started.  I was very fortunate to have such a great doctor and that everything went well for me.

Good luck!

Thanks for this post! It really put things into perspective for me! For example, we have all tried eating healthy and exercising, and when it didn't work, we went back to our old ways. So, when we loose weight by eating right and exercising after the sleeve, we actually see results! Which in return causes us not to want to go back to our old ways!
I am having surgery on March 7th! I hope this is how it will be with me!

because of my unhealthy lifestyle and some genetics, the extra weight really screwed me up. When I went for the sleeve to try and reverse all the aweful things going on in my body, I made a commitment to a healthy life. I have not fallen off the track so far. I don't eat fatty foods, no bacon, sausage, things fried in butter, deep fried foods, coated foods, soda, etc and find that I don't miss it at all. In fact I now like some foods that I never would have eaten before the surgery. I think the surgery opened my eyes to the truth about my eating habits. I als think it's easier to make a better choice on foods when we eat so much less than we did before the surgery. Now my mind set is, if I'm only eating little meals, I want the best that I can have and enjoy it. I  actually choose baked fish over dep fried because I enjoy the taste so much more post surgery! The healthy choices have gotten so easy that it is a way of life for me now. I'm scared to eat things like bugles, nachos, popcorn, cheese dips, etc and just stay away from them.
Good Luck

Sometimes I think the Ghrelin factor is overestimated.  It plays into the desire for there to be a medical magic bullet that cures us of our obesity.  Don't get me wrong I read all the studies and know that extended weight loss is not a natural state for the body.  The thing is that Obesity is a hugely multifactored disease and biochemistry alone is not the sole cause or cure.

For me the biggest thing to overcome is Head Hunger.  I have the most temptation to graze when I am home alone.  Simple things like wanting a piece of bread with butter, or a handful of peanuts or popcorn.

The main tool I get from the sleeve is the restricted capacity.  The old me used to eat just to be doing something.  I would wolf down an entire large pizza, 2 orders of cheese sticks, and a plate of peanut butter crackers.  Then 30 minutes later go back for a snack.

Thanks to Dr. Houston and his magic trochars, thats not even a physical possibility any more.  The month+ on liquid and mushies helped reset my taste buds.  I now love foods I couldn't stand before.  Some things I still don't like, such as fish.  Some I really love like Shrimp or Cottage Cheese.

Overcoming the head hunger has been harder.  I have had to use the other tools to overcome that.  I have to focus on my long term goals for both weight loss and life goals.  I have to weigh that momentary pleasure from that bread and butter or those nuts against a lifetime spent with the people I love.

I think that as people learning to manage our obesity, we can learn a lot from the "Friends of Bill".  For me it took really hitting bottom physically to make a hard decision to change my life and turn it around physically.  Like in AA where people have to realize that they are always an alcoholic and have to manage that for life, I know that I will always be a fat man.  Even if I am wearing size 34 pants in 6 months, I will be a fat man in size 34 pants.  I will always be managing my weight consciously on some level.  My surgeon and the staff at my COE have given me some great tools to do that - surgically and emotionally.  Its up to me to use them.

If you just eat slowly and follow the food guidelines, you just won't be able to eat as much, which helps a lot.

I had the lap band for three years and had just as many cravings as before the surgery - but with the sleeve and reduced grehlin - It has reduced my mental hunger by a lot!  I don't sit around thinking about food (one exception is head hunger a few days before my mentsrual cycle) but that's it.  I am sooooooo happy with my sleeve!

i know that people can gain weight back, but do they ever gain back 100% of their weight?  i've seen people say they put on 30lbs or something but never someone who said they put back on 100 or 200lbs.  i can't see how that could happen with such a small stomach.  i mean you would have to be eating slider foods all day.
