My iPad is wonky. Did you have good skin shrinkage or will you need plastic surgery?

You have to define what "need" means. I have loose skin on my arms, thighs, tummy, hips and back. Luckily for me my weight was distributed throughout, so there's nowhere I NEED plastic surgery. I won't get it because it's painful and I'm a chicken. Also relatively poor.

That said, before I lost the weight I couldn't wear no-sleeve shirts or shorts (except maybe Bermuda) because of the fat. Now, if I can't wear them because of the skin I haven't lost anything - but I have gained my health.

I didn't have this surgery to look good in a bikini - and it's a darn good thing.

Everyone is different. Many things play a role in this, age, genetics, how long the skin was stretched to the max, etc. I am 51 and have been overweight all my life. Many years I was morbidly obese. My arms aren't as bad as the rest of me, but I still have batwings. They did come back the best though with exercise. I hope to have a lower body lift one day, that would help me tremendously! "The girls" are scheduled to be fixed in a couple of weeks.

I'd rather be a lower weight with loose skin than morbidly obese with health issues any day! Don't let the fear of loose skin keep you from improving your health by losing weight.

In all honesty skin most likely will not shrink back that much. If I want to ever have a hot body unfortunately plastics is my only option. Not in the budget right now. My skins not horrible, but its not that pretty either. Its kind of the reminder where we have been. Sigh ..

I used to be the most self conscious of my arms, but my tummy is so bad I can pinch the skin and lift it away from the fat thats still left. my boobs are awful too lol. I will definately get a tummy tuck but will have to wait another year. For now, shapewear hides it pretty good under my clothes.

I am 52, and MO for most of my life.  Skin looks not-so-good.  Oh well.  Honestly, I don't really care.  I fear pain, and I doubt I will ever have plastic surgery (though I'm not saying never).  It's just not a big worry for me.

:) Happy

Oh, the skin issue. I would say I fared a lot better than many in that department. My arms are pretty good, legs ok, inner thigh not as good. I lost nothing in "the girls" until very recently, I'm on the last 20 pounds and they are on their way out. I will have breast aug. And lift when I hit goal. Now my belly is the worst area, that being said it's really not that bad. I look good in clothes and people can't believe I want plastic surg. Without clothes a whole diff. Deal. I will need either extended tummy tuck or lbl, not sure yet, will see in 20 pounds. I think what you do or don't do depends a lot on how you feel, your confidence and what you can live with. Of course there is the issue of money. I am very pleased though, I would have thought things would have been much worse than they are.

As someone else said - It depends on a lot of factors.  Most likely you will have some excess skin hanging around.  How much depends on your specific scenarion.

I will tell you that as I am losing more weight, I am caring more and more about my appearance - some may even say developing some vanity.  I am a little less than my halfway point right now and the loose skin is starting to bother me some.  I look like the michelin man after being thrown in a microwave.  I have loose skin already under my arms, on my inner thighs, my butt, and my stomach.

I am thinking a lot about plastics and beginning my research.  I have found that it can cost anywhere from 12 to 50 K.  The recovery times are long, and the scars take even longer to heal.  Seeing 6 week before and after pictures of men with similar backgrounds to mine, I would stil be ashamed to wear shorts after.  Based on thes pics I have seen I would go from looking like a microwaved michelin man to Dr. Frankensteins monster.  A circumfrential scar around my hip line, y shaped scars on my inner thigh - it wasn't pretty.

Most places require you to wait a anywhere from 6 to 18 months after entering maintenance to consider plastics.  They want your skin to retract as much as it will as well as seeing that you have reached a stable weight.  Exercising to increase muscle tone can help a lot as well.  Adding strength training to your cardio will help tighten the muscles and hold some of that skin in place.

I didn't think I'd come out of this looking like a male model or movie star.  I went into this wanting to live a long and happy life.  But looking like a movie star would be nice...

After being so heavy and having 2 kids.. I think I already need a tummy tuck. But from past experience when I loose weight my skin reacts better when I am using lotion! I have a skin firming lotion (some no frills brand that was cheap) and I use it EVERYDAY. I put it on in places I usually don't like too because it makes me sweat (Like between my legs on my thighs) but its worth it because it will help my skin look better

Oh yeah, I've got bat wings, and thigh wrinkles, tummy flaps, and pockets of fat that just seem to hang in the skin flaps....blech....turkey skin under my chin, and loose skin just about everywhere....

But I DO NOT HAVE rolls of fat everywhere, 3 chins, arms that won't fit into the "right sized" clothing, feet that need a "wide" width shoe, or the need to shop in the "PLUS WOMANS" stores !

Yes, if I didn't have the tummy issues, I WOULD fit into a size 14, but because it's there, I have to wear the size 16s.

It bothers me in the fitting room, it bothers me when I focus on it.

But I actually have muscles under that skin and fat pockets, I can feel them. I am stronger than I have been in 30 years. I feel healthy and happy, and I am doing things now that I haven't done in many years. I have lost 12 sizes in jeans; from a 28 to a 16. No longer shop in plus sizes.

An extended tummy tuck would be a dream for me....finances won't let me go there....but I'll keep doing sit ups anyway....

I have had abnioplasty - he did a body lift.  Many years ago I had lost over 100 pounds and the plastic surgeon cut off 15 pounds of excess skin from my stomach.  What they did was the cut a hole around my belly button and then pulled all the excess skin down and tightened it and then sewed me back up.  I am cut all the way around except for maybe two inches from starting point where my spine is and then the insicision goes all the way around to right above my pubic hair line.  Tough surgery? You betcha. I was in the hospital for 5 days.  I had to be carried into my home because I couldn't walk.
My hubby had to set up a twin bed in the living room and tied a rope to the foot of the bed so I could pull myself up to get up to go to the bathroom.  But you know it was so worth it!!! I would do it all over again.  So if you have extra skin. Go get the surgery, don't wait!!!! Your tummy tuck might not be as extensive as mine was but even if it is!!!! IT'S WORTH IT!!!!!

I am using a left-over tube of Retin-A on my upper thighs, tummy, and some around back on my buttocks. Anything that might help tighten things up a bit--so far, after 2 weeks, no improvement. The best thing is to keep losing weight---my arms are now so thin that they are "compressible" in clothes, and lay flat by my side. Also the Zumba toning is tightening up my bat wings--of that I am about 95% positive it is helping.
