Has anyone suffered from LARYNGOPHARYNGEAL REFLUX, aka Silent Gerd? I'm 10 1/2 weeks postop and have hoarseness, thickness, sore feeling in my throat and a barking cough. I have an appointment with ENT but my symptoms seem to be spot on for this condition. Just curious if anyone else has had this.

Could be bacterial like a virus ...you'll be put on anti/bs AGAIN... if so....try flushin fluids, gargle w/ hydrogen peroxide, or warm sal****er....  and see if ya get some relief...but LPR  I think its treated the same as GERD with PPIs....you should get some relief....when I was researching PROBIOTICS and treatment of GERD (Imma super PROBIOTIC advocate!) LPR was mentioned in literature.  It happens years out too!

BEHAVIORAL CHANGES can help....NOT overeatin..so yer feelin it in your throat!!....NOT lying down 1 hour after eating. NOT eating high fat "greasy" foods 3 hours PRIOR to bed...type modificiations.  Reason is FAT (food) take 4.5-5 hours to digest...so sit in our stomachs a long time before our pyloric valve allow em to PASS into small intestine! .....with our tiny stomachs now...gravity ...sleep positions can cause backsplash of HCL (even tho ours is significantly reduced) into our throats....not only at at the stomach/esopho area.

Maybe proppin yer side of the bed up...like a huge pillow or blankets under your mattress...sleepin on your back as well. Those are GERD relievin treatments too!

Does Barretts run in your family? Several peeps here have had Barretts and are managing just fine post op...I dunno if they are taking long term PPIs or medication tho. History of smoking? a def. irritant..If so you wanna protect your throat as much as possible....hopefully DH ain't a John Holmes type

Hope others WITH LPR will chime in soon..hang in there Brit...the answers will come, see that doc...and you'll get those symptoms under control! n onto rockin that sleeve!
