Post Date: 2/9/12 4:05 pm Okay, so yesterday was the two week "anniversary" of my surgery. I'm on full liquids until the 24th at the direction of my surgeon. While I know there are others who got to transition to purees and then soft foods, etc. more rapidly, I said all along that I would follow my doctor's guidelines.
But . . . but . . . today that open bag of pita chips left behind by my friend looked so good and my head told me that I was dying for something salty and crunchy. I caved and had three that I ate way too fast.
They did not go down easily. In fact, it felt like they got stuck and I was slowly, carefully trying to swallow them all of the way. Although I made progress, it wasn't fast enough for my body which decided that what wouldn't go down must come up. Ugh.
A friend of mine who had bypass surgery four years ago told me a few months ago that at some point my head would convince me that I really wanted to eat something I shouldn't and that this would happen to illustrate the lesson.
Needless to say I'm back on track and won't try that again anytime soon.
Raising a protein shake as a toast to learning the lesson today!
