Psychologists...what to expect

I'm getting ready to make my appointment.  What can I expect?
Mine was really silly actually want to know what you did in past to lose weight how you feel about yourself what your family feels about the surgery if you have support etc it was really simple and easy so don't stress best wishes

Don't stress too much over this leg of the race, it really is no biggie. It's really a longversation about your current outlook and you'll go into your history of dieting and self-esteem. I've never known anyone getting "low marks" on their psych eval.

Good luck!

Don't worry too much,  It only took me about 20 minutes to get my psychologist straigtened out... he was really confused, but I think he will be fine now.

Seriuosly though, he just wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into, and make sure I wasnt jumping in too fast without knowing how big a change it would be in the long run.  Just be yourself, it will be fine
Exactly right.  All they're doing is making sure you are mentally prepared.  I actually had homework!!!  It was for the best though because in all truth I wasn't quite there yet because of some things I had going on at the moment.  I got those straightened out and got myself ready and got my surgery date and I'm 8 days from surgery!  No sweat.

No worries! Remember to remind them this is for health reasons and not vanity reasons.

I think that was the easiest of what I've done.   They wanted to know about my current lifestyle.  Past abuse.  They wanted to make sure I wasn't an alcoholic or a drug addict.  Mainly she wanted to make sure I was prepared and informed on what I was getting myself into.

Mine was broken up in 3 parts. The first part was a 1 hour interview similar to what everyone else is saying. She asked me questions about my past weight loss attempts, asked if there was any history of drug abuse, sexual abuse, what my childhood was like and what my expectations were for my weight loss among other things. The second part was a written personality assessment. It took about 2 1/2 hours to complete and was roughly 500 questions long. The third part was a follow-up to the written part where she reviewed my results with me and talked about any red flags that were raised. We also talked about what to do post-op if I felt like I needed any sort of psychological support. I really stressed about each part but in the end it was pretty easy. I get the feeling my experience may not have been as common, lol.
