Sense of taste

Just recently my sense of taste has totally changed.  For me, anything with even a touch of sweetness tastes cloyingly, saccharine sweet.  Protein drinks, Crystal light, and all fruits and vegetable are unbearable. When I'm tasting the salt in potatoes I'm made for the family, I have to spit it out in the sink.

Any Ideas?  Is this transitory?

Thanks.

For about 6 months post-op, my taste buds were super sensitive, everything was too sweet, too salty, etc.  Luckily, it died down after that, but I'm happy to report that I do require much less seasoning in my foods, but not to the extent that everything is gross! :)
I'm only 6 weeks out but have the same problem with sugary stuff.  I can't even think about crystal light or protein drinks without gaging.

But so glad to hear from the other poster that this is transitory.  It's a really pain in the but when I'm trying to get in my liquid protein and liquids in general.  For the most part, I can drink only water--which is fine by me.
I'm 6 weeks out as well and not getting anything in. Water even makes me sick. I pray I get over this soon. I need to be in the ER getting fluids as I type this. I just can't seem to find anything that I can tolerate expect OJ and I know with all the sugar and acid, I don't need it. It's honestlly the only thing I don't throw up.

Right now, I'm eating a lot of pickles.

Isn't the sodium killing you?

I can't imagine going through this for 6 months. There has got to be something I can drink that won't make me sick. I can't seem to find it though. I never thought things would be this hard.

onemoretry,

Sorry to hear you're going through this.  I'll say a prayer that you feel better soon.  I actually went through the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago.  My doctor ordered an endoscopy to make sure there were no strictures--that god there wasn't.  While I got my endoscopy I got iv fluids because I had become dehydrated sense I couldnt even drink water without feeling like I was going to throw up (I too could only drink OJ--and then I wasn't even able to drink that).  The fluids made me feel ALOT better.  FInally, my surgeon prescribed me some anti-nausea meds which seem to help some.

But I'm still struggling with getting solid foods in.  Are either of you guys having trouble with solid foods too?

But you should  call your surgeon asap.  At the very least he can prescribe you anti-nausea meds and get you on an iv drip for dehydration.

I meant "thank God there weren't" above.  I type so fast sometimes I forget to spell correct!!
I'm not getting solids right now either, my surgeon wants me to get my fluids up before moving on to solids.

I did get a stricture fixed about 2 weeks ago and thought things would get better but the have not. I have prescribed a few anti-nausea meds and was switched to zofran (spelling?) yesterday.

Ohh, got it.  Yea, you may have to get another endoscopy to stretch again if your stricture still isn't fixed.  I've heard lots of people on the board talk about having to do this 2 or sometimes more times to fix a stricture.

I'm on Reglan and Zofran--so hopefully the Zofran helps you.

Hang in there girl, it has to get better for both of us!! Hopefully, a month or two from now we can laugh about how miserable we were and how hard we thought it was going to be to go through this journey.  Keep me updated and I'll do the same.
Thanks Rae! I hope you are right. I'll keep in touch...

For me the opposite is true. I love anything ice cold with splenda like Vitamin water. In the past I chugged plain water all day at room temperature. Now I cannot get it down, it makes me nauseated. A month ago I would not have touched anything sweet to drink. The Sleeve rules me now and the sleeve loves splenda. Best, Sharon

Honestly, nothing taste the same to me since VSG.  Nothing is really horrible, but it's not as
enjoyable and I can't understand why.  I can seriously take food or leave it, it's becomming a
means of fuel only.

I'm 2 weeks post op and everything looks good except these sweet protein drinks! Yuck! I can't wait until I can eat soft foods! I wished I didn't want anything to eat.
