I literally just got sick

I took my Carafate, made some grits, took two bites and had to throw up.  I haven't felt good all day though.  Is there anything I can take for this?  I am three weeks out of surgery.  I do not like the nauseous feeling and I certainly do not like throwing up.

Your doctor didn't give you anything post op?  I'd call and ask your surgeon for something.  Mine gave me something but I don't remeber what it was.  It made me go to sleep though.  Also try ginger tea or anything with ginger in it.

The Carafate is what my doctor gave me.   It's in liquid form, and then I also take Reglan in pill form.  I'm kind of scared to take it right now though.  I really don't want to get sick again!  I would love to know what you took that made you sleepy though.

It was called promethazine I just looked it up, it's an antihistamine.  I took this when I was on the edge of vomiting and it went down ok.  Maybe the Ginger? Than the meds?  Did it just come on suddenly or has it not gone away yet?  If it was sudden I'd be concerned.

I'll probably call my doctor's office tomorrow since this is the first time it happened.  I hadn't been feeling good all day, and then it just happened.  I have some peppermint tea I bought, I will give that a try too.  I feel fine now though, absolutely no nausea now.

don't take the reglan. I was prescribed the same pill and I regret taking them. google "reglan side effects" before you take another one.
Have you always eaten right after taking the Carafate?SIs it possible that you ate too soon after- the instructions on my prescription state to wait 1 hour after eating or take 2 hours before eating. Have you eaten grits since surgery? Sometimes your sleeve is tempermental- it took me about 2 months after surgery before I could eat eggs again. Hope you feel better, and best wishes.

I usually take the Carafte and wait for about 5 minutes.  And this is the first time I have eaten grits since surgery.  Something tells me this will probably be the last for a while.  I am supposed to start Stage 3 starting on Monday and I am so looking forward to something other than bland, creamy foods.  Hopefully I will be ready!

Hey, Ashley...sorry to hear you're having a rough time. As a fellow S.C. girl (Charleston here), I can relate to how unimaginable a life without grits would be!! Arrgghh! Still...it's probably temporary, maybe your new belly just doesn't like 'em yet.  Phenergan (Promethazine) is an awesome drug. I am a nurse and it's one of my favs for my patients. Hope you get to feeling better!
Off topic but just wondering if you were still happy with Dr Hughes since he's cutting on me next month.  Hope you start to feel better soon.
Ashley,
Carafate is used to prevent/treat ulcers.  I don't know if it can be used for nausea.....it was prescribed to me for an ulcer and stomach pain.

You might want to call your doc if you're stil feeling bad in the morning.

I am three months out and I still have bouts of nausea and I throw up occasionally... One day a food will be fine and the next day it will make me sick and the next day it's fine again.  Some days are just "bad sleeve days"

Promethazine is generic phenergan and is used for nausea but usually will knock you out. Zofran is another option and doesn't cause drowsiness as bad for most people. i was given both in case I needed something daytime vs. night. It sounds like the grits just didn't "settle" or you may have a virus or something. Feel better soon! Just stick to clear liquids for several hours and see how that settles.
