Cigna: Get a Medical Clearance Letter

They submitted my stuff to insurance last week, and Cigna denied me because there was no medical clearance letter, but according to the policy, that's not required!  SO now I am trying to do that.  So, just advice for anyone else with Cigna, even if your case worker tells you that you do not need that letter, I'd get it just in case, because mine said she's had four cases rejected for the same reason in the past couple of weeks (why she didn't tell me that before submitting mine, I'll never know).

Grumble.  Now to try and obtain this letter ...

I worked for my bariatric surgeon for a year and a half and EVERY insurance requires a medical clearence letter from AT LEAST your primary care physician. I'm sorry they told you that, but you are right.. if anyone's coordinator tells them they dont need a letter.. they are wrong.

There is only one success--to be able to spend your life in your own way.

I also have Ci**a and I got to case worker at two different time so two stories. I have been trying to get assigned a case worker but I was on the phone for 4or5 hours the last time UGH! Any way one told me I didn't need the letter I didn't believe her so when I was hung up on when I was put on hold I got a much better person after being sent all over the country. She said it was a good idea to get the letter from our family Dr and any other doctors that could help like my OBGYN. Good luck to you! Hope everything happens quick so you can get the procedure done!

my insurance doesnt require a medical clearance...but they do require a letter of medical necessity....

I think this is one of those cases of better to have too much documentation than not enough

The same thing happened to me with Cigna. I had clearance from my surgeon, dietician and physciatrist. Of course also the six months supervised weight loss notes from my pcp too. Everything on their list, but even with the notes from the six months documented weight visits with my pcp they needed that additional medical clearance letter. My doc just faxed one over and didn't even ask me to come in for another visit.

Don't worry. It'll get approved once they recieve it, mine was. Now I'm 11 days post-op!
