Gonna Stand Up and Brush Myself Off

How do you all recover from a day of making bad decisions... It seems like one bad decision leads to another which leads to another and its a spiral down hill from there....

Yesterday I went to a management conference and I even packed my snacks and lunches even though I knew the food was going to be catered in .. I packed blueberries, an apple, and a quest bar.. guess what... I ate the frickin baked potato bar that was catered in...

THEN.. my husband gets home and he was craving mexican food like a pregnant lady (his exact words, ha!) so we went to On The Border... and guess what.. ANOTHER BAD DECISION... I ate 2 firecracker stuff jalapenos and was full...

no excuses here... I'm just wanting to know how you "recover" your minds from a day of bad decisions...

Today I'm chugging water like its going out of style to hopefully flush out all the sodium I consumed!

according to my dietician it is totally ok to have days like this.. she also says that it totally ok to have things that you crave and want and that you shouldnt deprieve yourself of these things or you will fail... so take it as.. I wanted to have some foods I know arent the greatest for me and I did and they were yummy and now I am good for awhile and start today as a new day!!! You are going to be ok.. you got this.. and you know what you are doing!!! Keep it up!!! :)
In my opinion, the best way to recover from a slip-up is to simply forgive yourself and move on. I don't even try to "make up for it", I forgive myself and get back on track with a purely "going forward" atitude. It happens. It happens to everyone- even skinny people. Getting back on track is so much easier when you're kind t yourself!

Gurl, great job on recognizing this & then taking the next step to get back on track.
I don't know if I can call it recovering (actually, we are recovering, duh!) from the bad decisions expect when I know I need to get back on track ... I just do it. I try not to beat myself up about bad decisions because then I end up wanting to throw myself a "party for 1" pity party & then think of more excuses to keep up the bad eating pattern.
I will admit, I try to start the day off right with a high protein breakfast and to get a walk in early in the day. For me, if I can start my day off right, then I am ahead of the game already.  That helps me want to keep going in the right direction.
Great job on drinking tons of water after because I do feel that helps. You got this gurl, keep workin' it!

aknapp, I like your thought of "be kind to yourself" ... THANKS FOR THAT!!!!

I have occasional off evenings, where I know I'm going to eat more carbs & salt than normal.. I just go back to business as usual the next day (with more water!) I don't restrict, no liquid only diets.. just protein, low carbs, plenty of fluids.. I usually gain a couple lbs over the next couple days, but I log even the "off-plan" foods as best possible, so I *know* the gains are bounceback water weight from too many carbs/sodium.. it comes off again, no biggie.

I really had to get rid of the "all or nothing" thought process I had prior.. too many times in my past I went in with great intentions, ate something that wasn't the best choice nutritionally (but tasted great!) and then pulled the "well, I killed the diet today, I may as well eat x,y, & z and get it out of my system.." Yeah, it wasn't the eating the one off plan item that was the bad thing, it was my thinking..

Bah...If you know you messed up, then you have already won that battle! Don't let it worry you too much as we all have those days from time to time..Just nature's way of letting you know you're not perfect. Get back on the horse and ride to the next town...or NSV is the way I look at it.

Or you can look at it this way...those poppers will probably clean out your system for you instead of water... !

xoxoxo!
