I LOVED sunflower seeds pre-op, probably my go to snack in the evening. I don't think I will try them again.......don't wanna get myself hooked on em again.
At 165 or so calories per ounce, they're similar to others in the nut/seed family, and at 6ish g of protein, they're not the greatest protein source per calorie, so they're really in the occasional snack category for most of us during the loss phase (and certainly not a whole cupful!), and the 6-7 g of carbs will have the carbophobes wagging their fingers at you.

Try roasted, salted edamame -- tastes really good AND gives you crunch and a little salt.  1/4 Cup -- which is plenty has 130 calories and 14 grams of protein. At 6 months plus out sometimes I have them for breakfast and eat 1.5 servings which is 195 calories and 21 grams of protein.  I actually eat more carbs than most (doctors plan) but as an FYI they have 10 grams of carbs per serving.

I did/do sunflower kernels here and there. But I noticed having them more than occasionally slowed my loss. Between cal/carb/salt content, they aren't an ideal snack, but doable if you're careful.
