Weight Loss Surgery Directory

Threw my back out!

I have not had a problem with my back since surgery, so I was hoping that it wasn't going to be an issue anymore now that the weight is off, but I bent down funny yesterday to pick up the baby (who isn't really a baby anymore and is over 30 lbs LOL) and now I can barely move. The one good thing is that since I weigh less, the muscle relaxers seem to work better then when I was at my biggest.

Boo, back pain is the worst.

/end whine.

i also hoped that my back pain would get better, but it turns out that my body has a long memory when it comes to how it holds my frame in place...  it still thinks i'm over 300 lbs, and that pulled my back all out of whack again...  i spent 2 months in physical therapy trying to retrain my core muscles to work with my current body make up...  it's a long process....

hope you feel better!

To live would be an awfully big adventure -- Peter Pan

That happens to me. After implants, my upper right shoulder area gets a "kink" that causes me to stoop over and be miserable. Core exercises and strengthening have really really helped.

I know how the back pain is! I'm sorry!!

Hopefully it won't last as long now that the extra weight isn't adding to the pressure. I know my back has improved significantly since dropping 60 lbs but I just took a two week hiatus from the gym because it has been bugging me and I didn't want to make it worse. Went back yesterday and it's doing good so far. Sometimes it just needs a little babying. Ice, motrin, muscle relaxers, some bed rest should help. Feel better soon!
Back and teeth pain are my most dreaded pains. Cut me open, torture me but don't mess with my back.

I hope it's just a little tweak and nothing tooً serious.

Get thee to a hot tub!
I hope it feels better ASAP!!

Ouch...back pain is the worst! Make sure to take care of yourself. Muscle relaxers are nice, but just some plain rest without getting up and down or bending is good for healing too. I'm hoping that by getting this weight off, I won't have so much pressure on my lower back too. Crossing my fingers that the back issues are over. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon
Sending good vibes for a quick recovery. Back pain is the worst.

One of my resons for getting this surgery is because I had a two level lumbar fusion last Jan, and I figured that losing the weight would help my back pain.  I hope it works.....I am now a prisoner to muscle relaxers and pain meds.  My goal is be be med free.  I know it is not a given but, skinny people have back pain too but, can't hurt, right.  Back pain is the absolute worst.  I am 44 years old and have lived with it for 12 years.  And unfortunetly the fusion surgery did not help.  If anything made it worse.  That is a good point about the meds working better at a lower weight.  :)

Agreed, back pain is the worst!

I've only mildly thrown mine out since surgery and I seemed to bounce back a little faster. Then again maybe it was the stronger effect of the flexeril!!

Hope you get to feel better soon!

I'm sorry you're in pain.  This just happened to me a few weeks ago and I was out of muscle relaxers.  My back brace and heating pad helped some.  I hope you feel better soon!
