Ugh, so frusterated!

I'm almost four weeks out from surgery and my learning curve is definitely a little steep. Our clinic gives us "meal plans" to get us through the first four weeks, basically what we should be eating each day and how much and when. I don't know if it's skewed for everyone or just me. It says to eat 3 oz deli turkey - I start trying to work my way through it and find myself with the foamies after 1 oz. 5 or 6 bites is all I can eat, and their plan says I should be able to eat a half a cup at  mealtimes.

It's even worse because I think I'm focusing on the amount they say I should be eating and trying to get it in so I meet all my nutrient goals, and I'm not sure I'm learning to listen to my sleeve. I'm ending up with the foamies like twice a day and it SUCKS! And I'm still supplementing with protein shakes, which they say we should have given up last week.

I have an appointment at the office on Monday, and I'll go over this with them then. I just had to vent after I just sat over the toilet while my stomach decided whether or not it was going to reject for 20 minutes for the second time today. I think the dogs are starting to think it's some kind of new game - and I'm learning that I don't clean the toilets as well as I thought I did.

Every plan is different... My plan said I should be eating rice and 1/2 slice of bread at 8 weeks!!!!! I'm 3 1/2 weeks out already.....

whoa - i am no expert, i'm almost 5 months out.  I'm not sure how they can say exactly what you "should" be eating and when.  I know that for me what was critical was getting my protein in (one way or another) and getting my fluids in.  How many ounces and when was not exactly my priority but I know that all plans are different.  My two cents (but I"m not sure you asked for them) is to go easy on yourself and know that you're doing the best you can as often and as soon as you can.  You're doing great if you're getting as much protein and water as you can!  Hang in there!!!

That's all I'm focusing on is the protein and fluids... And I will be for awhile.... So glad I like meat!!!

Jeanne is right! Everyone is different. I'm nearly seven weeks out and can't even eat a whole scrambled egg. Usually I have 1/4-1/3 cup of cottage cheese with a couple peach slices, or 3 Tbls. of chopped chicken with some cream soup. I rarely finish anything I start. Thankfully, I have only gotten sick once. I ate too much, too fast! Lesson learned. Try to eat a little, wait 10 minutes and try another bite or two.

At four weeks, you might only be able to eat 1 oz (on a good day). Forget about the amounts listed in the meal plans. They may be goals. I can barely eat 3 oz of deli turkey now, and I am almost 2 years out. Early on, I couldn't tolerate deli turkey. You might try things like tuna or softer foods, such as cottage cheese or yogurt. I couldn't eat a half cup of anything that early out. Go at your own pace and supplement with protein shakes, so that you can get your protein. Everyone moves at a different pace and has differences in tolerance.

Listen to your sleeve. I couldn't eat 3 ounces of protein until I was several months out. First, it was half an ounce, then one ounce, and gradually worked up to 2-2.5 ounces, when I was about 4-5 months out. Today, there are days that I can eat 3 ounces of dense protein and other days, I can only eat 2-2.5 ounces.

I was told to never eat until full or stuffed just eat to satisfied so If I don't get my whole 2oz in at a meal then I don't worry about it and I never eat past  20 min.  I'm about 3 and half weeks out.  But every plan is different.  I haven't had foamies yet but I can not imagine they are fun I hope your doctor gives you some awnsers Monday so you can feel better.

Listen to your sleeve and don't pu****  The information that the doctor's office or nutrition's ofice is just a guide line.  Everyone is different and we all respond differently.  Eat what your sleeve will allow and supplement it with your protein drinks or other protein choices to complete your protein intake for the day.  Do what you are suppose to do with all of the important daily routines involving protein, water, exercise and vitamins.  You shouldn't be forcing your sleeve to do what it isn't ready to do.  Give yourself a break from the foamies...you and your sleeve will be thankful for it.

Focus on your friend the sleeve...you are the one living with it, not the doctors or the nutritionists.  Be kind to your sleeve and it will b kind to you.  Love ya.  Do it for life!  Enjoy the adventure and the journey along life's pathway.  You are worth it.
