Let me start by saying I had the lap band for 3 long years. Never lost very much maybe 20 lbs but was sick from the moment I woke up till I had it removed. I couldn't eat or drink and was put in the hospital many times due to that. But no one would remove the band unless I would have a gastric bypass or sleeve. Finally found Dr. Nick and her removed it 2 years ago. I did lose 60 lbs once it was out. But I got sick and was put on so much meds and was in so much pain I gain it all back and plus 15 lbs. So Here I am sitting up at 3:49 in the morning scared to death about Tuesday. I have a great doctor a wonderful husband and daughter that are here for me. I know people who have had the sleeve and they have done great. But it cant be undone. I cant stop thinking of the what ifs. The lap band was so a nightmare.

Don't be scared, although you went through your bad exprience with the lap band,  hopefully the sleeve will be a much better one.  I had mine done on 7/16, two weeks ago today and I am the biggest "scarry cat" in existence.  I am happy to say that everything has been wonderful.  I will have you in my prayers today and hope to hear from the new strong and better you soon!!!!

It's normal to be scared. I was terrified. If you weren't scared I'd wonder if you were taking the whole thing seriously enough!

I don't know if the sleeve surgery is any more uncomfortable than band surgery, since what's uncomfortable are the surface incisions, but I think it does take more out of you energy wise since your body has more healing to do inside. Expect to be a little tired for several weeks - it took me about a month to have all my energy back. It wasn't terrible, but it was noticeable.

That said, we've had a lot of band-to-sleevers on here and they've done great!

I'm right there with you!! My surgery is in 1 week and this morning I woke up more than an hour before my alarm really feeling the nerves. I can only imagine what you went through with the lap band. I'm so sorry you had to go through it. It is stories like yours that convinced me the sleeve is right for me. The permanence is very scary, but we have to do something permanent or we will never be able to maintain a normal weight. What keeps me going is knowing that no one seems to have regrets about getting a VSG...unless it is wishing they had done it earlier The issues people have are early on and have to do with the normal healing process and adjusting to a new diet. If we do everything our surgeons tell us to do, I know we will both be fine. WE CAN DO THIS!!

You are in good hands with Dr. Nick.  I had my surgery with Dr. Nick at Forest Park Medical Center on May 22nd, and it was the best experience.  I traveled from MN by myself and they took awesome care of me until my husband could come down and join me two days after the surgery.  He was impressed with the facility and with Dr. Nick when he finally met him the day we left Dallas.

I've lost 45 lbs so far and I don't regret the decision one bit.  It's natural to be nervous, but you'll do fine.

Like others have said, its normal to be afraid.  I had surgery 10 days ago on July 20th and I was scared to death.  However, I was even more scared of not doing anything about my health and   lifestyle. Although everyone is different, my experience so far has been nothing but a positive one.  I have more energy than I've had in 10-12 yrs and I could walk 3 miles daily within 3 days post op.  I feel "brand new". LOL!

This may sound kind of crazy but I look at weight loss as a very positive side effect if you will of my lifestyle changes.  From here on out m,y concentration is mainly on healthy eating and daily exercise and the rest (excess weight) will take care of itself.

i was terrified! thoughts of backing out rambled thru my mind all of the night before. i sucked it up and had the surgery last wednesday. im happy that i had the guts to carry on with it, and i know that the reward will be a healthier new me...we're here with you, kiddo.

 I was thinking that last night maybe waiting one more month. But I will have it done tomorrow I have to be there at 7:30, Thank you.

Terrified - up to the morning of, then I told myself I had to suck it up. The only pain I had was immediately following recovery before I got to my morphine, I mean, room.
I didn't even have gas pains except several days into it, in my back of all places.

I felt the same way. I kept thinking someone would stop me just as I was getting wheeled into the operating room. Of course, no one did, thankfully. Now 8 weeks later, 40 lbs. lighter, I am so glad I went through with it. I could never have lost like that without it. Try to relax as much as you can. You will be fine!
