What struggles are you facing right now that you don't have your tool. I feel I need support from people who are currently living with giant stomach's like myself right now. What changes have you made if any? When is your date? Are you nervous? Are you losing weight? Well stop by and say hi :).

I am! I get my surgery date tomorrow, starting to feel the nerves.

I had been doing the six month supervised diet, was supposed to finish my last appointment on August 1st when my insurance company decided to eliminate that requirement. I had been working on low carb, high protein foods, eliminated soda (Coke has been my drug for years), and walking three to four miles a day. I dropped some weight (down fifteen pounds since the beginning, 35 since last year), and now I feel like I have hit a wall. I know that it is the nerves and the "well, one more before surgery" thoughts that are getting me, but I am feeling flustered at the moment. I keep saying that I am going to get back on track, but so far I am still struggling. But, today is a new day... right?

What about you?

Hi TanyaR,

I am pre-op, and a self pay, so I don't have to do any of the dieting, but I am trying to cut down the sugars and carbs to have that mind set in place before the procedure.  my vice is diet DR. Pepper, I think that soda will be difficult.  I am scheduled for October 16.  I am very nervous.  My weight is holding steady, I take in 1400 calories right now, but I am PCOS with insulin resistance, which makes weight loss very difficult...right now it feels like its impossible.

I have PCOS and insulin resistance myself, it is most definitely a struggle! Are you on any meds?

I am on Glumetza (a form of metphormin).  No help, coupled with hypothyroidism.  I will probably get diagnosed with diabetes before surgery.  My surgeon said that my fasting sugar was elevated at 120--normal is 100--so now I have to get the A1C levels checked as they were normal the last panel.  :-(

I am not pre-op now, but I was!  In January I started serious modification of my lifestyle and I had surgery in mid-March.  I replaced the meals I ate by myself (breakfast and lunch most days) with protein shakes and I found a mental therapist and started seeing her every week.  Those were the two big pre-op changes I made and I lost 25 pounds.  So yay!

Hi! I'm Pre-Op! I still see my dietician through my doctor's office (whom I've been seeing since November last year). I lost 29 pounds since November then gained back 18 pounds - that's just how it goes for me though. My doctor's office submitted to insurance today so I should know more in about 2 weeks. I've cut back carbs (cut out almost all bread in general), doing better at the no soda, way less in the way of snacks (which can be hard with an almost 7 year old and an almost 2 year old - they always want to eat!). So, I'm still trying to lose weight and I'm cutting out things I know I won't be able to have post-op. I figure if I start cutting stuff out now maybe it won't be so hard later.

I'm a little nervous but mostly for my husband - he hates driving places in Indianapolis so I think his dad will have to take me for surgery. But, I think I'm mostly ready to just do this and start being healthier!

My biggest hurdle has actually getting conflicting info from the insurance company. Just found out today it apparently does have the six month supervised WL requirement, which I thought my one particular plan didn't have. I have to wait two weeks to find out for sure; it's UHC and they assign you a nurse case manager, who will apparently call me in two weeks. Also in one place it says that weight loss attempts don't have to be consecutive but must be in the past five years; in another place it says in the last two years.

Also I was supposed to have my initial visit tomorrow but the surgeon I was scheduled with is moving to a new group so will not be covered as of October. Luckily I was able to reschedule for next week with another surgeon from the old group.

My VSG is scheduled for Aug 4th. I have PCOS, diagnosed with diabetes 3 weeks ago and HYPERthyroidism. I am on day 2 of my pre-op diet. So I'm living the low carb life. I gave up sodas a couple of months ago and it was easier than what I thought... and I loved a Mountain Dew. I couldn't function in the morning without one.

I'm just ready to plant my behind on the loser's bench!
