One week post opt....feelings

I am one week from the day I underwent the VSG procedure. Most of my painful symptoms like the gas pain has gone away but I am still having difficulty, adjusting to this new lifestyle. Especially with eating, like today it seems like I am having a hard time eating and getting the protein shakes down. I would take a bite then their would be a girdling sensation in the upper part of my chest then down to the top of my stomach. I am getting sick of this feeling so I was wonder if anyone has had this problem, is it normal, and will it go away?

Also I am confused what my full signal is, my stomach is still sore, rumbling, and healing from the procedure so I don't know if I should follow my stomach's feeling of fullness and how long after I should eat because I never feel physically hunger but I know I must eat/ drink to fill my juice and protein requirements. What where you full signals the first couple of weeks and how long did you eat again after those signals?

Right now, your stomach is healing and your nerves were severed.  This is why we get pretty strict guidelines for eating in the beginning so that we won't hurt ourselves.

At one week out, what are your guidelines?  Mine were full liquids and there's really no risk of damaging your stomach with liquids.

I have been moved to really fine puree foods. My Nut and doctor would like me to do two scoops of protein a day  and 8 glasses of liquids or around 64 of those little medicine cups which at first I was only getting in about 8 or 9 a day which was real low. I haven't really puree that much just sticking to the protein, popsicles, jello, both, yougurt with no fruits pieces, and water down liquids

It takes several weeks before your stomach heals and you get the hang of how it behaves and what it can handle again. Try to relax, follow your doctor's instructions, realize that you're very much in the same situation as an infant who is trying to get his eating and pooping system to regulate. It just takes time, patience, and quite a bit of effort to figure things out. Good luck!

A lot of weird gurgling can be from drinking too fast or getting too much air when you drink. My doctor explained this, I slowed down to tiny sips and the gurgling stopped almost completely.  Best wishes!
