Vsg was done yesterday. Doc is concerned about low urine output.  They have been giving me fluids through the IV. Anyone else go through this?

Are they sure it's low output and not retention? I couldn't pee the day after surgery and eventually they catheterized me. They said that urinary retention is common after general anesthesia. After that, I was fine. Good luck!

I am a dude, but have had a lot of urinary issues since    surgery. I had no issues before surgery. I still am not back to normal just over a month after surgery.  I don't feel the sensation to pee like I did before surgery.  It is crazy stuff... I jus****ch the clock and estimate when I last used the restroom and hit the restroom every couple hours.  You can read my blog for more details.

Sorry to hijack :) Since surgery, I feel the sensation, but its a struggle to get it out. Regardless of how much water I have drank. Very odd!

You can be "dry" even with all the fluids because of fluid shift.  They are doing the right thing by giving you more IV fluid.  Hang in there you will most likely start peeing as soon as they fill your tank.

Not to scare you but low urine output can be a sign of kidney failure. If you put out less then 30ml per hour they get concerned. Severe Dehydration can cause Acute Kidney Failure. I'm sure they are just being proactive to ensure this DOESN'T happen to you. Like a previous poster stated you probably just need yourctank topped up to full and then you'll be just peachy!!!  Good-luck hope your on the mend quickly :-)
